Holster cracked at all rivets

I've been on less than 10 troops (most of them were just standing around for pictures) and my holster has cracked at the points where all 4 rivets attach it to the boot. Is this common? Were the rivets tightened too much? The holster was ABS (SC I believe).

I have used my SC holster for 5 years and over 100 troops without a crack.  So I haven't had this experience.  Do you have some pics of the inside and outside of your boot we can see so that we can try to determine what happened here?

Sounds like you may be unsure if it's an ABS part from SC.  If that's correct...Is it possible it's a styrene holster from another builder?  I ask because the thermoformed styrene parts seem to have a tendency to crack moreso than ABS.

I had it happen to mine. Has the holster been trimmed down any? If not you can trim it down. There's a lot of property there you can remove. The sc holster is over sized.

I've got a SC holster too and it doesn't have any signs of cracking, though sometimes not all sheets of abs are the same. 

Also you should reach out to Jeff from SC. He's pretty well known for his excellent customer service.

Confirmed that the holster is from SC. I did not mount it myself as I had the boots commissioned and just supplied the holster.

Yeah you can trim that but your gonna be stuck with the holes. Now you can cut some small pieces of vinyl and fill the holes with them along with a piece of vinyl on the back inside of the boot to glue them too. If that makes any sense.

Yikes, that is some serious cracking. Sorry this happened with your gear so quickly. Again, I would reach out to Jeff about replacements, especially given how few troops you've done with it. 

That said, I did notice that you don't have any metal backing washers on the back side of the rivets. Metal backing washers help to alleviate the stress that's placed on the plastic when you compress and set the rivet.

I've had 2 holsters crack where I put the holes. Even with backing material, it can happen. I'd just ring up SC and buy a new holster. I did that with my MC stuff.

I've had some success with repairs by backing the holes with some plastic and just gluing the cracked pieces together. Doesn't look amazing but it holds.

I think the washers will help when I replace it. Also, I like the internal strap you have on your boots. Guessing that also might help alleviate the stress by keeping the vinyl upright. Can I ask how you did that Chopper?

I prevent "boot droop" using the elastic and velcro boot blouser that I sewed to the side of the vinyl. I keep it secured around my leg and it helps to keep it up while my blaster is holstered.

Seeing how you'll have the boots apart for new holster, maybe you could pass the rivets through the anti-droop strap thing instead of sewing it.
