I myself don't really care for the way they construct the soft parts and over all look isnt what it should be. But I wanted to start trooping as soon as possible (and because I am TERRIBLE at sewing) so I bought it thinking it would get approved. I got denied. As for sewing you can do it! I learned how and well I'm a few crayons shy of a box. So if I can do it anyone can! Get you a scrap piece of cloth and get after it! Run some different lines. Try different stitches. You can do it! I had to in order to make and better my own soft goods. No matter who I had make my soft goods I was never happy. I'm really more curious as to what gives IB the impression their stuff is 501st approved when general consensus is not. That's kind of frustrating, time wise more than anything. We have a saying it's not 501st approved until it's 501st approved. Meaning each individual item. Agreed I see items all the time that claim to be. Barber Posted September 16, 2019 Share Posted September 16, 2019 My biggest problem with Imperial Boots is that its all generic sizing. S, M, L. It's not tailored specifically for the trooper. So whereas it might be perfect for one individual, it could look goofy on another. The bund also just seems off. The vertical ribs seem too large and the pouches look far too spaced out from the last rib, should only be an inch. My wife made my flak vest using the t-shirt tutorial method. At the time she was a newbie at sewing. It took one test run, which didn't turn out right before the second one made was perfect. The key to the scout flak vest is the raglan t-shirt. greenyone Posted September 16, 2019 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Ordered soft parts are always going to be fickle even when the materials and construction are of good quality. It's not what everyone wants to hear, but unless you either have an onsite taylor or made the stuff yourself, it's going to be difficult to have any of these parts fit your frame perfectly. Case in point, I bought an inexpensive sewing machine and after several attempts at each soft part finally got to a point where I was satisfied with the fitment and construction of each. The flak vest was a bit beyond my novice abilities (sleeves present a much bigger challenge than bunds, cods etc..) so I commissioned one from the popular Etsy seller based on the measurements he requested. It's of amazing quality and construction but the sleeves were still too long. I was able to make that altercation at home with my newfound basic sewing skills...but I can't imagine having to go through that with every single soft part let alone just 1 of them. With all that in mind, I'm in the "buy an inexpensive sewing machine and have a go at it" camp. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
