Abdomen side raised strip

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i have a BSP armor kit and want to know if the strips on the abdomen side are ok. In the CRL is the size not specified, only " one diagonal raised strip".

The black stripe belong on the back, i have to change that, but are the strips ok to be approved?

Thanks for your help.

Greetings

Alessandro

Hi - you'd have to talk to your local GML about that. All approvals for basic are done at a local level. I cut the extra BSP strip off, added a shim, and glued it all back together. Your abdomen strip is pretty wide and out of proportion with the rest of the armor.

I personally wouldn't approve it for basic as a GML. You'd most likely have to replace it if you went for Level 2.

The BSP kit has an extra step in the diagonal strip that needs to be removed, that is required for basic. That’s why the CRL mentions “one raised strip”. Your GML asked us for advice so he’s aware of it.

I also have a BSP kit, here you can see how I removed it on mine.

My kit came with a similar setup. It had 2 pair of cover strips (one wide, one narrow), with very shallow return edge. I made molds to vac-form this deeper cover strip with step and sharper corners. Laid it over the soft pull on my ab plate and it dips further in, leaving room to attach back plate on top.

I have some spare plastic here if anyone else is having this problem. PM me if you need one.
