Patrol Trooper CRL revision (and Level 2)!

Anovos have been known to be wrong in several area's Officer tunics, snowtrooper helmets etc

True, but if we got mesh on the production helmet as well as the Anovos helmet.... I don't think that's a coincidence.

I guess you could paint them on, but that would be quite the task - it's a pretty small and isolated area. I agree with the trepidation in regards to Anovos, but I think the reference images provided above in tandem with Anovos' addition of the mesh could be sufficient.

In regards to the backside patch, I did a search for motorcycle breeches, motorcycle police pants, etc. A lot of the results seem to include that seam as well, such as this image below.

Still not enough to really make a decision there, but it makes at least a little more sense as to where that detail might have come from.

Right -- so it just seems to be a design element of motorcycle patrol pants.

Some people are going to have these anyway because they are actually ordering patrol officer pants from police supply stores.  And for all we know, the production got the pants from the same type of place.

Hmm, I'm still on the fence about it, but we can add it as a recommended option for Level 2.

What is mesh and what looks like mesh are 2 different things , as I said im just cautious about basing things on a blurred image, however I will go with the majority, @Ruthar mate im sending my helmet to you to upgrade :tb1:

Adding it as an optional item seems like a great solution. :)

Fully in agreement about the white shoulder straps.  We need to specify that they are rubber-like and ribbed.

The boots...not so sure on this.  I mean really, for basic you are doing a front, back and sides pic.  So as far as the GML is concerned, as long as it looks correct with everything on, you should be okay.  I don't think the CRL is really the place to be putting every possible configuration someone could come up with to make it look like they are wearing boots.

I'm in agreement with you on the boots.  Keep the CRL as it is, but allow the flexibility to meet the intended image of an IPT for Level 1 approvals.  For Level 2 approvals, pix of each item are required and riding boots must be what the boots look like.

Also, not necessarily to change Level 1 requirements for the white shoulder straps on this round, but for the TK's, the CRL has a separate paragraph specific just for the shoulder straps and what connections are permitted and what aren't.  That might be a consideration for future revisions rather than having the straps as a line item under the Chest Armor.

Ah I see. I'm not overly familiar with the TK CRL.   Since the strapping system is the same as the Shoretrooper, I just used the same language except changing it from tan to white.  I like consistency across all Pathfinder CRLs.

One more thought about a requirement for the bucket for Level 2...  Would we be interested in requiring the vent below the brow, above the eyes, to be painted black?

Taylor caught it and I did see a photo where it was visible on the screen-used bucket, but now that I search, I can only find Taylor's to show the vent.

Yes I think that's a great idea.  It's also on the Shoretrooper

There IS mesh between teeth, on Anovos helmet.
My friend was at SDCC2019 any took pics of Patrol Weathered helmet.
On one pic I noticed mesh-like lines.
Unfortunately, no pics shows it clear and I still don't know if it was real mesh, or solid plastic with mesh-like surface. f403c3efc2fc58e3d32f16a9ef1c46eb.jpg

Great reference shot, Denis.

I'm coming into the Patrol Trooper from the Stormtrooper side of the Legion.  With TK's, we do have the frowns open for ventilation and screen/mesh is called for behind the teeth to obscure the view inside.

Thinking of how the movie costumes were built in a prop shop, either as a one-off, like the IPT, or in a production run, like TK's, I am sure they had actual screen available to use on this bucket, like they use on all the others for the movie.  Trying to create something that looks like screen, but isn't, would be so time consuming for the shop.

I would strongly encourage opening the frown with mesh behind to enable more airflow into the bucket. All the TK buckets have a mesh type some are left to the user (ESB, ANH) and some specify like the Rebels TK with a metal mesh. I’m all for accuracy but you got to keep your brain cool when it’s encased in ABS or plastisteel!

If there is a concern with Anovos and their accuracy I’d reach out to the DL and see if we can tag up with LFL and possibly get some more info.

I’m just coming at this from a safety issue. The more air you have flowing through the more comfortable and safer you will be.

I'm fully on board with mesh for Level 2.  I think we've got enough evidence for it.

Okay team,

I've incorporated all the suggestions into the CRL rewrite in the original post of this thread.  Please give it a look.   I'm battling a bad summer cold right now, so very likely I missed something.

And if you disagree with something, please let me know.  We are getting close on this one!

Updates look good, but I do have one comment...

Handplates = I don't recall any discussion regarding the oblong recess on the hand plates.  The plates look pretty close to the same design as my TK plates.  And, I've not been able to find reference photos with a recess.  This promo image actually makes the plates look very thin, too thin to have anything on the front edge.

Okay fair enough. This is a detail the Shore trooper has and I figured since all the new generation of troopers are using the same gloves and handplates, they'd also have the notch.  But I'll take it out until we get more evidence.

Am I crazy? It looks to me like the notch is there in the image above.

I agree.

The notch is easy to add with a Dremel, but some propmakers add the notch when casting them too.

I also like to keep a back up of the CRL on my desktop.  Just in case!

  • 3 weeks later...

So I was looking again at all the pictures I could find and how I did not notice this before I don't know as it's also the same on the Hot Toys figure, The baton holder Is connected to the belt with some kind of loop, on the figure it's plastic I can't say for the on set costume.e839bcc0d6955f8f9d9a82c08945e823.jpgbb10868aefae23ffe0831cf9dd062e5f.jpg9b2375304a2b9afb7d6ee153ae54cbad.jpg
