Thax
Mainly looking for ideas on fans and padding. Before any of you say "but scouts don't need fans!" know that I live in south Texas and will likely be trooping outdoors in 95F/35C weather with 80%+ humidity and possibly no breeze later this summer. I also sweat a lot. I'd like to consider fan options. Also, padding - I have a WTF helmet and a larger than average head. The tactical padding my wife is using for her bucket lifts the helmet too far off of my head, so I need probably some thin foam up top that is just barely there/super compressible and something on the sides and/or front/back to keep from being a bobblehead. I'd also like this to work with a possible fan solution. Anyway, I figure most of y'all have more experience than my few weeks with this completed build, and figured I'd see what all you've done to the inside of your helmet! Mine is super basic at the moment - no velcro, plasti-dip on the inside surface, and ears cut out.
pvicta
If I remember tonight I'll post what I haveI'm in Canberra in Australia so winter's can be below zero and summers in the high 30sI have a piece of foam used to pack servers in the top of mine, that also covers the battery pack for my fansThe fans were made locally and are un-bracketed and I Velcro them to each side, by my cheek in the frontThis has allowed me to troop in a shed that was near 40c for close to 3 hours non-stop, where the week before I was struggling after an hour in 30cPvictaSent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
pvicta
OkHopefully you can see thisIf not, let me know I've given you padding without fans, where the battery box is placed, with fans, with padding and fans, and what the fans look like It took a bit of playing around to get balance and feel rightThe leads come down the back of the helmetBut with the foam and placement, I'm not noticing any weight, or height/sight issues Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk
greenyone
I ran into the same issue. Putting the tactical helmet padding up top had me looking at the snout instead of out of the eye lens. I used a welding helmet liner instead. My helmet is pretty much resting on the top of my head with this setup, but I can see and it's secure on my head. I CA glued vecro (hooks) to the top strap and to the forehead portion of the welding strap/liner with corresponding velcro (loops) adhered to the inside of the helmet. No fans installed yet.

It took me a minute to realize you have the chin strap in there. Is that 3 pieces of padding I see on the back of the helmet interior?
