Armor for heavy set guy

Recommended Posts

Hello there everyone, I’m in the process of trying to decide on the best set of armor that will fit my body. I’m 5’11 and weigh about 290,I’m in the process of losing weight but it’s a slow grind.  I have looked at the armor comparison thread and many other threads while trying to decide. My question is will most sets of armor look the same on most body types or is there armor that looks better than others on a heavier body type. I’m interested in a kit from RS props but also also looked at threads about altmanns armor. Would either kit look just as good as the other on a guy my size? Thanks for everyone’s input, it’s much appreciated.

Hi
You and I could almost be the same person
Except I bet I'm the better looking of the 2 of us

I have SC armour, WW flight suit, Altmanns helmet and soft parts and boots from various places

If you look at my duty log you'll see what that combo looks like on me, and can make a call one way or the other

I too am trying to drop weight, so feel your struggle

If you feel you need bigger, reach out to Spike on the forum
I'm pretty sure he does a bigger kit

Feel free to pm me if you want to

Biggest kits are probably Altmann, WTF and Kropserkel.

But keep in mind, the Scout is really a soft costume on the down low.  The chest piece really only should come down to the bottom of the pectoral, it's not meant to cover your whole chest.  With the right strapping, you could probably work with most of the armors.  SC would probably be a good choice as well.

As the RS Props and Strider kits are the most screen accurate, they are going to run on the smaller side.  With the right strapping you might be able to make them work. It really depends on your measurements.

Hi, I have Altmann for my armor. I'm 6'2 and 330, so I kniw his you feel. This armor fits well and as Mickey said it is a soft armor costume which works well for us big guys. Although I still struggle to make a cod piece that looks right.e6d248f5072a25c9cab05651edea06c4.jpg

6'1" 300 lbs (I think) and I have SC armor with KS helmet. You'll be ok with almost any kit with the exception of RS and Strider. If I remember correctly Kropserkel is slightly bigger than SC but it's not as accurate and needs e a little more work done to it.

Thanks again for all the tips everyone. I’m going to be ordering my armor soon, and while waiting for that will be learning to sew lol. I plan on sewing all the parts myself, it will be a learning experience I’m sure

Late to the party here, but WTF is sized for bigger people. The helmet is a major pain to assemble, but honestly can wind up looking better than many others if you put the effort in (it took me forever, not sure if I would again).

But as was said before, the chest and back are what matters the most. My 5'2" wife ended up abandoning her WTF chest/back and ordering SC because she couldn't trim the torso any more and still have it look right, because it was too big on her. It fits me fine at 5'11" 230.
