I used velcro to hold on my back plate. Depending on your armor (mine is ABS) you could have some nylon tabs go over your back armor and connect to the back plate. It'll be covered by your upper back armor .

I use elastic straps to connect both sides of the abs together. The cover plate attaches to two snaps in the middle of those straps.This allows the ab section to stretch behind the cover plate.
