The pouches and cummerbund I do see being an issue for a taller Scout if the pouches are set at a certain size,

It's not. Trust us. We've been through this. We set the sizes for a reason.

First its not really up for dispute that the bottom of the bund lines up with the bottom of the pouches.  I've got tons of images that show this is the case.  The bund shown above is much too long. It looks like the way prop makers used to make the bunds years ago.  We recommend that bunds run between 8-10 inches in height.

It used to be that we told Scouts to make pouches to fit their size....and it was pure chaos.  Most Scouts were running around with pouches the size of pizza boxes, because it's human nature to err on the side of too big.

Last year we set the pouch size to 6x5x2 based on every source we could measure. That size looks good on any sized Scout, including our Captain of the Guard @Stroker who is 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Anyone going for Level 2 will need pouches that size.

For the extent it helps, I'm going to drop this soft parts essay I wrote here :D :

I'm confused ( not difficult) by your comments about the leg elastics on the IB flightsuit .

I get that the elastic is too tight , but there are comments about it not seeming to go inside the suede riding patches .

Im modifying my IB flightsuit and changing the elastic for fabric webbing that looks visually like the stuff they used oin the movie. Whilst doing so, should it go inside the suede , ?? I'm not sure weather you mean it "should not" or "should" go inside the suede ...or weather it "should" /"shouldnot" stop, level with the suede edge .

Cheers.

Most of us just sew the thigh strap down right under the outer edges of the thigh patches.

The comments were that you can see the strap's outline UNDER the thigh patches.  There is nothing in the original to suggest this.

We're on it ! Just working on compromises between what was on the screen , and what lancer requires .

Soon . ;0)

Just from a quick glance at your pics, only thing that stands out are the lack of cuts in the boot soles.

The imperial boots were custom built for the event , the ones that will be sent out with pre orders will be from this run . The sole colour has been sorted and the Velcro is one inch .

The sole cuts are just financially unobtainable . A custom sole would make the boots prohibitively expensive unfortunately. As would the boys at RS taking the time to cut them .

Howevet, the boot sole is soft enough for an x acto blade !!

The magic of the myth costume needs re assessing . For years we have held this as the holy grail . Quite rightly so . It's the only occurrence of a biker suit outside the archive .

However , despite the exhibition being overseen by movie guys , it was generally put together by people who didn't work on the movie .

The suit is all production made , but only a few parts were from the movie .

The bike itself is a given , as are the boots and blaster . After that it gets hazy . The gloves and helmet are screen used , but the rest of the armour and suit is production made , but not screen used . The armour is a raw cast , no greeblies . The chest is pinched for  production use, but not used .

The rest of the soft goods are also production made but not screen used.

So the guys at RS are still wading through details  .

For Lancer it's a deal with the c.r.l. Not screen accuracy . The suits at M.C.M  need adjusting for Lancer . Lancer is something we aspire to , but RS have other markets  to asses ... collectors , mannequins , non 501 , 501, they have to please them all .

Its a balancing act .

It will be up to individual 501 members to go for Lancer , and that may need some adjustments .nothing major , just adjustments fir fit and Crl compliance .

Plus , remember, some stuff hasn't been available since the 80 s !!!! Ginos thread about found trim parts proves that .

I know this is a rambling post , covering many items . Maybe I should put my costume where my mouth is and start this threatened Lancer thread .

There is even more biker stuff on thus weeks RS Propmasters YouTube video about the weekend at MCM .

I've never counted anything as the Holy Grail, especially not the MotM costume.  It's just information, like the Scout from the RotJ blu ray extras (which is wearing a leotard instead of an undersuit!) and the Scout from the costumes book, which is wearing a neck seal.   The MotM Scout is not what the Lancer CRL is based on.

We've pored through every available source, photo, video, screenshot and interview to get what we've come up with.  I've also talked with Gino extensively about his own research.  And not just over email.  Face to face.  Learning everything I can about this costume has been a passion project of mine for the past 5 years, which is how I ended up with the DL badge ;)

There are a lot of things that can be considered "screen accurate".  Every dressing error that was recorded on film is "screen accurate".  Every flipped image in editing is "screen accurate".   But is that the best representation of the costume?  Not necessarily.  Lancer is our best representation of the costume based on the aggregate of everything we know.  Is it perfect?  No.   But we feel it's the best representation of the costume at this time.   Standards change as we learn more info.

So like I said -- just quick glance at the pics you posted --- cut the boot soles a bit and you've probably got it.

I look forward to your app.

i wasn't suggesting Lancer is based on the mom photos, just talking about them generally . ;0)

As a member of the " Star Wars lifesize" build team at celebration Orlando, I got a pretty clear idea of the assembly and layout of the scout costume , and have spent the time since obsessed with it ..( I just wish I'd come to the pathfinders sooner ) and the last year assisting development of  the RS scout, especially so . Let's hope I've not let the side down with my own RS scout !!!!

Schemes like the stormtrooper " centurion" and scout trooper "Lancer" are excelent ideas and in an ideal world every 501st costumer would aspire to them .

Getting the first three RS scouts cleared to troop with the notoriously difficult U.K.Garrison was a first step .its only fair that at least one of us should go for Lancer .
