Diadem Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I recently bought this completed armor from a member on here. It's SC armor with KS helmet (I believe), and is currently approved for him, but it needs some adjusting, cleaning up, and one part needs repaired before I can submit for approval. See the green tape on the shoulder? The armor is completely broken across there. I've got Gorilla Glue drying right now with the tape holding it together, but I know it won't hold as is. I was thinking of getting some more plastic (like a for sale sign or something), and gluing a strip to the underside of it. Do you guys have any different ideas? Am I screwed? 😅 Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Brian PS: the bridge is going to get narrowed substantially. I don't think I'll be able to shoot for Lancer right off the bat, but I'm going to try to do most of the level 2 stuff.
Chopper Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Yikes! Gorilla glue is cyanoacrylate, which will create a temporary bond, but won't actually "weld" the plastic at a molecular level. CA is also rigid, which means it'll snap when it flexes. Because the shoulder strap is already weakened from the break, it'll likely break not long again in the future. As you suggest, you will need to create a splint behind the break, using some plastic "for sale" sign material. I'd glue that to the back of the strap using devcon plastic weld. You'll need to clean and sand off all the gorilla glue before you bond it, otherwise it won't work as well. In terms of repairing the visible break on the front end, I'd sand everything down as best you can, then fill the rest of the gap with abs paste, using scrap ABS plastic. There's a number of guides on youtube and the internet for making abs paste, here's one -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bYLRFMKDSY If all else fails, you can talk to Jeff at SC about getting replacements parts ala carte. 1 1

Thanks Chopper! Hopefully it doesn't come to having to replace it. That's a big piece!
BikerScout007 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Yup get yourself some scrap ABS and a can of acetone. It can work miracles. 1 1
