HSM76 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Hi I think I start the tread now even if it will be a few days before I start the actual built. And it will take even longer to complete it since it is way to cold right now for painting the bucket. I got the bucket kit from RS early 2018 along with a TK ANH Stunt kit. The TK was finished in mid November, EIB and Centurion will follow when I have time to take new pictures. Late November I ordered the RS scout set, which as some of you might know got postponed a bit. But as I wrote above this is no problem since I have no way to spray paint in this cold weather. But I will have some work ahead to get the helmet so far maybe till then the weather is warm enough. 2
Chopper Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Hiya Sven and welcome to the pathfinders. If you haven't already, go ahead and request 501st member access here: http://forum.501stpathfinders.com/index.php?/forum/162-access-requests/ With the RS kit coming, it's looking to be a very exciting time to be a scout. I look forward to seeing your progress. Let us know if we can help! 1
HSM76 Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 Thank you Corey, the 501st access was granted nearly instantly after my introduction here 🙂 Yes I will post questions, I think they will arrise during built of the helmet. As with most things RS there is no instruction to do the built. Right now I have the Vallecho colours for the M3 fasteners and the snout greebly, flat black for the snout. For the bucket itself I have bondo, primer, filler and RAL9016 for the top coat.
Chopper Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Excellent. Glad that you've been squared away. As for the helmet build instructions -- check this post: 1
HSM76 Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 After getting my TK Centurion ready, yesterday I wanted to start on the TB bucket. But the only thing I managed was stare at the parts and contemplate... This thing is instilling more fear than the whole TK armour! One thing that I don't quite get is this small piece of ABS, where RS drew on with pencil. The hexagon might be for the top of the dome, but was is the other shape intended for?
HSM76 Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Ahhh okay, Just saw a picture on Facebook, from RS. The one on top is intended for the visor. Still rather terrified to start cutting the helmet parts.
Aliaz Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 It's always scary making the first cut. Follow the build thread Chopper linked and you should be fine. 1
HSM76 Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Yes, I am going through the thread back and forth. But indeed it is a lot more scary than the TK bucket.
Frank75139 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Like a TK build make it slow and steady. You’ll be fine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
HSM76 Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 One question that's shot in my mind, is: How about painting the face plate, do I attach it first and than spray paint the visor / Faceplate section. Or do I paint them separately and attach the faceplate? I ask this because I fear that I get insightly paint residue between faceplate and visor.
Retrofire Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 If you’re concerned Just paint them separately and then combine them. You can always do some touch up paint on them if needed after assembly. 1
CatfoodRob Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Build the whole faceplate/ visor , you need glue to stick around the edges before you paint it . Once assembled it's not difficult to get even paint up,inside the visor area, so don't worry . Thats thenway RS do,it , and I've built two, myself using that method
HSM76 Posted April 29, 2019 Author Posted April 29, 2019 So finally started with the bucket. I got a bit sidetracked with a DLT19X 🙂 I started cutting some of the parts but am still a bit weary, especially the visor. An initial problem I encountered while testfitting the dome part. It won't really go over my head... I think I might tighten down the return edges in the face and neck area, but I don't know if that will help a lot. Any tips here? 1
Dart Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 If you need, you should definitely take down the return edges a bit. I'm slowly working on mine and I've gotten rid of most of them around the face. I'd have to check on mine, but I think I left about 5 mm or so around the sideburns. 2
HSM76 Posted May 3, 2019 Author Posted May 3, 2019 One question that popped up, will the seven vents on the helmet be okay for lancer approval, or do I need to make an eighth?
CatfoodRob Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Why would you ? The helmet is cast from a real one . 2
HSM76 Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 I read some discussion here about the number of vent indents, so I thought I better ask, than be sorry. 🙂

HSM76 Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 Great, thank you all! Got to work a little bit on the bucket, today and made some holes:
HSM76 Posted May 7, 2019 Author Posted May 7, 2019 Got the BBB from RS Prop Masters with the commission yesterday. The soft parts need a bit of a rework. I have to make the jumpsuit narrower in the midriff, it is a bit wide there. I think I will separate the flack vest and the cumberbund. The cumberbund is way to wide, have to make a new closure and remove the sixth rib in front, with this I have to reset one of the pouches too. 1
Barber Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I just noticed the sixth rib on another photo of the newly produced RS Props bunds as well. Ya should let RS Props know so they don't keep making them with 6 instead of 5. 1
