This Armor usefull for beginning

Recommended Posts

Hey fellows, i´ve got a short question, i found this armor in the internet, is this armor ok for beginning with a scout??

I compared it with reference pics from RotJ and i would say yes, but i know it´s always better to hear others opinions.

There's some odd proportions on some of those pieces.  Looks like it may be a recast.   We generally advise against buying armor on Ebay.   There are many more reputable sellers to be found on our vendor list:

It looks fine for approval.

Who is the maker?

The maker has the name Armour Factory Props, they seemed to be set in Spain, their main page is with spanish language.

I know what you mean, but it´s not an armor from ebay. on their FB page they have pics from the helmet they molded.

Ah, thanks for including the maker's name.

It's definitely not the most accurate set of armor I've seen, and the T-bit greeblies look off, but I see there are troopers who have already been approved with it.  So you should be okay.

I wish these new vendors would make themselves known to the Detachment!

That chest plate and some of the other parts look an awful lot like a MC kit, but I'd need to take a closer look before being certain of it.

That's MC! I've never seen a untrimmed kit from MC. Just my two cents but I'd stay away. Mc is good quality, but I cant speak for this which looks to be recasted.
I thought MC had a better belt than that! And that TD....

The belt and knees are different than MC looking at the pictures, but the rest is very similar to MC.

Right.... which screams "recast"

Okay bottom line:  I've checked out this maker's FB page and folks are getting 501st approval with it.   As it is the Garrisons that do the approvals, not the Detachments, then the answer to the OP's question is "YES, you can get approved with this kit."

But the suspicious similarity to other maker's kits means I'm not going to be adding this to the Vendor list without some further information.  Recasting is really frowned upon in the Legion and we don't want to promote it.

I am unable to spend a bunch of time at the moment studying it but with a quick comparison I would say there are more than just a few similarities.  It pretty much looks like my kit.

You might have to wait for my photo to load.  I seem to be having some issues with my host.  I will try using the attachment feature too.

The belt is the only piece that I can say for certain isn't copied.

Oh good!  I thought that belt looked pretty bad and I'm glad it's not yours.

Thanks for the insight, Cal!

What's up with the belt boxes?

On their armor?  Way too narrow don't you think?

Hmm.

I don't know.  I am pretty sure they copied my parts (minus the belt).  It would be nice to get better confirmation.  I wonder if anyone has one of their kits that they could take better pictures of or compare to one of my kits.  They deleted my post from their facebook page and didn't respond.  I still need to reach out to the Spanish Garrison but I just haven't had time.

Back when I sculpted that kit, there wasn't a lot of reference other than The Magic of Myth display and I think the DVD had just been released so I was able to zoom in on my T.V. ;)

I think we did pretty good getting the belt boxes to the right shape and scale.  Most of the kits out there (at least back then) had huge oversized belt boxes so we didn't want to follow suit so-to-speak.

I will attach a couple of images.  We took these back when we first made the kit so we didn't get the photo angles and vantage points quite right so a little imagination is needed to "tweak" the angles of the parts in your mind's eye, plus I can't help but feel there is something "wrong" with that image of the scout in the movie, in the first shot.  The chest plate just seems super weird to me.

Yeah your belt boxes look fine. Theirs look noticeably narrower with large gaps between each box.

I'm pretty sure the bottom picture is the rubber cast stunt armor that was worn by the Scout that gets flipped over on his back.  Probably why it looks odd.

That would make sense.  Yeah, that chest is super stretched out sideways.  Maybe because of how he is standing with his hands on his belt boxes and shoulders up.  The suit armpit might be pulling the webbing, thus pulling the flexible armor.  Who knows.  Not that it really matters lol ;)
