Feedback is welcome please. The rule of thumb used to be about 1 inch from the knee armor, but the Costumes book kinda threw that measurement out the window. I hope this helps its a little darkThe one on the back side is smaller because it doesn’t go up as high it stops after the crotch seam where as the one in the front goes up nearly to the waistband. This looks like a bit more but still not a lot. How much is not enough? Is there a guideline to know too much or too little? Also separate question, does the elastic go all the way around the thigh and under the patch or just to the edge of the patch? It’s hard to tell. They shape changes when it's actually on someone's legs. The photo posted by M.J. above, as well as the overall biker scout photo in the CRL are ideal guidelines to use. The elastic does not have to go all the way around the thigh. Many secure it just inside the edges of the suede. However, when I first made my coveralls, I was having trouble with the suede bunching due to the elastic pulling, so I actually sewed mine in place as a loop around the leg, then I sewed the suede on top, while the elastic was secured in place. How does it look? I think the armor slid a bit but it is in need of trimming still. The horizontal tape line is where I think the elastic would go. Am I close?
