Biker Scout WIP by TK-41015

Hi all,

I’m Falk, an aspiring tree hugger from Germany. I’ve had my kit from Chef’s Creations laying around for more than a year (got a little girl around the same time) and finally started! I’m more of a charity guy than a builder and have very little time, so I’m aiming at standard approval. I figured I’ll need some help on the way, so I’ll share progress here. Thanks in advance, I’ve read a lot on this detachment page and pathfinders seems like an awesome community!

So far I’ve cut out some parts and managed to assemble biceps, forearms and knees (forgot the washers for the rivets, but the elastic is glued on so there shouldn’t be a problem).

Very good indeed, I was quite hesitant with the cutting part, but the trim lines make it quite easy. The tank part is obviously a little  more complicated, but OK. The only thing I’m asking myself right now is to either trim away at the lines or better at those dents which seem to align with the back part. Guess it will just be the usual sanding... and sanding...

I have a question regarding the tank greeblie: It is very wavy, should I try to sand it more flat or is there an option using heat to adjust it to the tank’s top?

Finished the back tank and forgot to take a picture of the L-shaped plastic piece on the back holding the tank top. I additionally riveted it in. I dremeled two slits where Velcro is attached to the tank. It goes through the slits and on the back part because I was worried about the tank staying in the right place until the rivets were placed.

The top rivet went in well. When I put on the tank I noticed that the black elastic did create quite a gap, so I took it off in a hurry and later just glued it on.

I’m not entirely satisfied with the bottom rivet, as there was quite a distance between tank and back. Things got fiddly and when I finally snapped the rivet on the washer on the inside fell off. The rivet is in place, but without washer, so I’m worried it will come off sooner or later. We’ll see.

I would try heat to flatten it out.

The tank has those vents in it?   That's....odd.

That’s what I did, it worked out well. The Kit is from Chef.

Did some dying, three bags of black tea in a huge bowl for 5 minutes. The straps turned out a little darker than supposed, but I guess it will be okay. I’m only dying them because I got the pouches in that tone from Boris TD-10761 together with a flak vest and I want to use them as a small gesture in his memory.

Trying on front and back. I guess the back should go up a little?

I think it looks good but if you wanted to I’d take the back up a tad

HI ya Falk, you're doing a great job.

Your front may need to come down, the neck is too high, looks like its going to choke you.

I took some time off the build mainly because of my second child’s birth, but here’s a little update with the thermal detonator.

I also managed to work on soft parts and strapping, hopefully I can post some news in the next days.

With two small kids time is precious. Anyways, I was able to do the belt. Quite satisfied, the belt boxes are hanging 2 inches below the belt.

Just trying to check if the shoulder bells and zip ties are on an OK position because I’d like to add a little glue to the zip ties so they can’t close any further. Please note the front has slipped upwards again because I just threw this on without closing to see about the shoulders.

Overall great.

As a refinement, I'd say you could bring them in a teensy bit more, maybe a 1/2"?

Even as is, your current set up shouldn't pose an issue for clearance.

Ok, I definitely need help on this one. Would those riding patches be OK in size? And when I’m wearing the overall the mud flap seems OK, when flat it seems kinda small. Opinions? Thank you guys.

Dear fellow treehuggers, it's been a long time but I may finally announce my approval as a Biker Scout. I'm really excited and will try out the build next month on a Star Wars Reads Day event. Thanks a lot to all the people of this forum who actively commented on the build progress or passively contributed hugely through their excellent WIPs, tutorials and pictures! 💘 And Chef for the parts!
