Whiskeys scout build (almost there...)

Whiskey

Recommended Posts

With the newly announced RS props Scout armor, I’ve decided to start a second build. This one will more or less be a display piece. My hopes is that this would be Uber accurate as I have the espirit gloves and hi tec boots

Update:

Helmet: RS Propmasters Kit - done

Armor: RS on order (dirty) - done

Flightsuit: vintage Avirex flightsuit - done

Neck seal: Darman -done

Balaclava: UA - done

Flak vest: Chef - done

Cummerbund & Pouches: Cheesewhoppy - done

Cod: Cheesewhoppy - done

Gloves: Vintage esprit - done

Boots: Hi-Tec Sierra sneaker conversion - done

Blaster: DVH - done

Until the jumpsuit arrives, going to begin with the boots.  Would started with dyeing the esprit gloves, but I misplaced the dye.  Need to order that again

The leather arrived (matches the white vinyl)

Looking at the side view there appears to be an angle cut that starts at the edge of the heel of the boot  or slightly ahead of.

Did a quick trim

This image looks as if the shaft is sewn together with the leather cap of the boot that goes under the dogbone

Unfortunately, 2-3 oz off-white leather arrived, not the 1oz white leather I ordered for the toe cap.

Oh well, I guess it’ll be a few more days until my new order arrives.

In the meantime, going to create the toe cap pattern.

On a side note, I just realized the boots from “what the?” Scout trooper that got the jump on Leia, are the same ones from the myth and magic tour.

Yay, the 1oz leather arrived for the cap, however the white is a tad dark. Ordered white dye. Hopefully it’ll match the leather for the shaft

While im waiting for that to arrive, I began the mods and first coat of black dye onto the esprit gloves.

Finally found time to cut my pattern

Sorry. I didn’t take more pics, but I had to re-trim the pattern a couple of times to make it fit better

Looking at the screen caps, the 1/2” strip also has a slope and sits below the dogbone

After a quick sew...here’s a mock up with a magnet holding the dogbone and strip in place

Ill have ave more pics soon

I'm curious to see how your leather boots turn out. I've been thinking of doing the same thing but finding leather that was the right colour and stiffness (or not) for the different sections has been challenging.

Was able to work on a little bit of it yesterday.

I used 3oz for the shaft, 1/2” strip, and dogbone. And 1oz for the toe cap.

The 3oz leather seems just right when it comes to looks, but slightly flimsy. I may re-dye the shaft to match the toe cap.  Anything thicker, proves to be harder to sew the overlap on top of the boot

Im going to back the shaft with a sort of leg brace made of leather and Velcro around my calf to attach to the holster to keep from flopping around when walking.

You can see here there was a second layer of something.  Not sure what, so I’m going to adhere a second layer for stability

Beautiful rainy day.

Finally getting back to the boots.

Finished sewing the second boot.

Now going to re-dye the boots a gloss white similar on what they did with the stormtrooper boots.

The reference photos we’ve seen has a nice shine to them.

Sidetracking on the RS armor “hump”, I sent a request to see if they can ship my back armor unassembled. If they do, my question is to add the black strap or not?

Reference images show either one

with the strap

without the strap screen grab

I had asked to see if RS would ship my scout armor unassembled a while back. They said no. I have a feeling im going to have to tear a lot of the kit apart and then put it all back together again. Hopefully they don't superglue everything together.

Yeah unless they followed my Strider build thread there's no way it's going to be the way I want it.

Looks like that thermal detonator will need the tubing replaced.

Need suggestions....

for the boots, I’ve been workshopping the horizontal pieces. They have to be flexible enough for bending with the sole at the ball of your feet. So something rubber/silicone. Also has to be thin, like .6mm

Been playing with rubber bands and cutting strips silicone mats for kitchen use. Most rubber stripping has been too thick.

That's the stunt armor, but what's flopping out is most likely excess side strap webbing.

I see.

Isnt there a pic floating around here that “kinda” shows the strapping under the cummerbund?

i believe it depicts two actors with there helmets off and one of the scouts cummerbund is slightly pulled down.
