I know the photo you're talking about, I think. I can't find it in any of my books right now though. I'll keep looking.

You mean from the stunt suit photo? To clarify, I don't think they're bund straps. I think it's excess chest/back armor strapping.

Awesome!

thanks!

I’m trying to recall from memory of that image along this image on how the cummerbund was strapped.

Are we for certain they are even straps?

To me it just looks like the bottom edge of the chest piece broke and is pinched under the cummberbund.

But hey, that's just a theory, a Star Wars theory.

Sorry to be all over the place, but finished the second coat. And pulled the remaining threading out of the zipper area.

I can only do the major parts when the kids are asleep or at school during the week.  This weekend they’re spending time at birthday parties.

This weekend I plan on finishing:

-the second boot (just the dogbone left)

-inner boot strapping to maintain the stability of the holster

-modifications to my bund

and if I have time...

Waiting on the IB flightsuit to arrive to modify.

Based on the images I’ve seen, I already plan fixing one thing for sure and touching up a certain section.

Then spend quality time with the boots horizontal strips and color matching without painting of the soles. I’m afraid of permanent discoloration in the future

Time for a change up.

Adding another to the piece of the puzzle 😁

Gonna be busy at work this week, so hopefully I’ll have stuff to report next week.

I know it’s not the correct Avirex fashion one, but one I can work with.

Nothing like trial and error.

Took the Star Wars OT costume book to the local military surplus store

Using the book for comparison, I found the correct Navy flightsuit pattern with front  thigh pockets

Using Photoshop, I highlighted in red, definitely a match

I almost missed that upper stitching

Upgrading from my Redkap coveralls.

Here’s where I’m at.

I was able to identify the type of flight suit based on the thigh pockets from my previous post

I was was able to purchase a new unused vintage fashion Avirex flightsuit in my size for $40.  Not the signature olive green replica. However it’s an S-36. Which can still work.

From what I gathered, the Avirex flightsuits were all very similar in design. Same basic or similar pockets in the chest and shins. The only real variable was the type of pockets on the thighs (which is the only one that’s really visible)

So my plan is to still use the S-36 as the base and remove the pockets.

Then replace them with pockets from the correct vintage Navy suit I just bought on eBay. $40

Probably wondering why not use the eBay flightsuit? Unfortunately, there were none that I could find on eBay or any surplus stores were my size. All were too small.

Once its dyed, shouldn’t be noticeable and I can still identify my flightsuit as a modded vintage Avirex 😉

Also, it’s much lighter as it’s 100% cotton and not cotton/polyester like the redkap.

Big day today.

Just came home to these from eBay

I didnt want to buy black suede for three reasons:

1) easier to draw my pattern on brown.

2) same process as production

3) dye seems more fun 😉

How funny would that be if we found out that actually this guy is just not wearing pants?  :D

Great work so far, man!  Can't wait to see the end result

Thanks guys.

By the way, I just realized I never posted the jumpsuit model. No point of anyone trying to keep information to themselves.  Not doing this to be the only one with an accurate setup.  Where’s the fun in that?

a few on eBay now, except I’m a 44L

Interesting and thank you for the info. What's the weight of the fabric like on the navy suit?

I can’t tell....is this considered cheating? 😉

I connected my laptop to my 50”.

Resized the image using the 2” black elastic as the constant. (Bad angel. Tape measure is lifted. 2” from the top view)

Laid down a roll of cellophane wrap to draw on

Still needs to be cleaned up and adjust when the pant legs are filled.

Bottom needs to be shortened the top needs to be extended upwards (as does the rear).  Needs to connect to the left side to form a curve under the under-carriage

Pretty productive morning

The original pockets came off clean

As did the original flightsuit pockets

Before I install the pockets, I need to make sure I have the alignment right, so I turned my attention to the patches

I finally found a template I like.  I just need to clean it up.

For now I just want to do a rough draft on packing paper
