Whiskey
So I finally landed these (and in my size)! Fits like a glove Because of the rarity of these boots out there especially in like-new condition, I’m obviously hesitant on covering them in contact glue. Looking for alternatives for attaching the vinyl without permanent damage, but strong enough for moderate walking if necessary. The only other choice is low tack double sided masking tape that won’t leave a residue and leave the boots as static for a mannequin. Options? E6000? command strips? Tjeccles
You might consider using leather instead of vinyl. You have a pair of the original boots, why not use the best method to cover them?

Tjeccles
That's a good question that I don't have an answer to.

Chopper
If you want to mod the boots, attaching vinyl without permanent damage is going to be tough. Any sort of adhesive is going to affect the fabric in some way -- even the adhesive on masking tape will end up staining the boot fabric over time. I know that Chef in the UK actually stitches the vinyl to the scout boots he makes, which is how the originals were created. That'd still be relatively permanent, but it'd be less destructive than using adhesives for everything.

Whiskey
The brown strip around the boots is hard rubber. Based on the location of the stitching from the myth and magic reference image, there’s no way I can stitch through that . 🙁
Chopper
Cobbler's use mega powerful shoe stitching machines! Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was something that could be done by hand 😯, I just wanted to mention how portions of the originals were made. 😁 I'm not sure there's really an ideal answer if you don't want to glue the sneakers. You could reach out to Chef via his website to see if he'll take it on, since I believe he's the only one who stitches the vinyl onto the boot. You'd need to get more details from him though.
Stroker
Man if I had a pair I'd have to put em on the display shelf.
