Welcome to my WIP. I picked up this 850 v2 kit second hand. I started out by labeling all the parts to tell which was which. In doing so I discovered this is a squad leader kit and does not include hip armor or Pringle can parts. I will also have to acquire the correct belt boxes for a grunt. 5469f77459bbfac8d44bc1fcc4ccdd96.jpg

Today is arm day. I chose to do the with the butt joint and internal cover strip method because overlapping was to narrow at the wrist. 1cb591d134fa575f45c7efcd6525d76c.jpg63cde51861d847f72f870ffdc9d6a1b6.jpg471c895b227d1bce0e415d6c213ef1ce.jpg4bf585f6963afda402ee9136b861ce0a.jpgef1f5828d50f691a38d93851df3c8834.jpg

After posting the last picture I realized I had glued the two outsides and the two insides together. I ripped them apart and reassembled them correctly. 31f2598c2a10e6823b22a7e110ff1bf0.jpg

Alright, leg day part two. d6213856e4fb6dc7eb4b5e89eecbba75.jpgI added a little scrap ABS to the bottom inside of the shin plate to give the glue something to bite to.

The top of the shins were installed with rivets and a small wooden block glued to the back of the knee details. These were then attached with a screw. d65c5337558ac765daf43d1c80217411.jpg7db0be9e16472505d57df74ceb085092.jpgfe4f686a6ecebef7d25c98f18ad0f180.jpg

The buckles took a lot of work. I don’t have a belt sander so I used a dremel tool with a sanding bit and went to town cutting away excess rubber and making it concave to fit the curvature of the leg.

Here’s a side by side of a finished one with the other. 80ed4c8d565016776a9a96e3260471f3.jpgbc2e8aae66875d1dfcf4dc7e8889a3c8.jpg0ac4a7a736bef3fdfc2a3496250ffdee.jpg

Today I finished the other leg, repeating the steps above.

With the legs done I moved on to the abdomen. I mentioned before I bought my kit second hand, well the previous owner got a little carried away and trimmed off the mounting area for the belt. To replace it I added a 2 inch strip of spare ABS, gave it a hot water bath and glued it in place. Some bondo to hide the seam will make it invisible after painting.

Side plates trimmed and glued in place. 137e414bf2ad7410276bbf2ced898e93.jpg
Lastly I installed some shins that give me lots of extra material to ensure a custom fit. 4173b8fc755b1220c4f0c0ed4fc6aac0.jpg

With 850’s first few versions it was noted that the front abb greeblies where not accurate enough and the pull was not great, that also was noted by the LMO at the time.

Most people cut these out, backed the inside and filled the front , sanded down smooth then replaced them with 3d printed versions.

Started rebuilding the forearm ladders today. CRL states a hard edge here and I didn’t want to risk not passing approval.

Hours of hard work later and I have one ready for bondo filler. This was made from 2 mm abs. e6925351e5d43024ae6928b0e389e4dd.jpg

gotta wonder if that's just an error in the pull or not....I've talked with the previous owner about this too that we both agreed the pull he got was not great. Curious to know if others had similar issues or not with theirs when they received their 850 kit. If that were the case then I better just hold onto my current forearms I printed.
