BikerScout007
EDITED: Okay the new CRL language is up and can be found here:http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TB_Scout_trooper You will also notice that the CRLs have a new Gallery section, which contain even more photos for both the costume builder and the GML when considering applicants. This is something that all CRLs are going to have going forward (the Patrol Trooper was one of the first ones to require Gallery pics), so I'll have to get them set up for our other CRLs as well! Thanks for everyone's input on this. It has been invaluable in making this new draft.
ForesterDesign
Man, we're gettin' SPECIFIC! I love it and am terrified all at the same time. But truthfully, I don't see anything overly ridiculous here - gonna have to try and get my Lancer V1 submitted by the end of the week.
MrPoopie
I like the changes and I'm happy we're finally starting to get to a point where this costume seems very close to screen-accurate, especially since most of our knowledge has basically been "bits of info" collected over the years. One that note, people must think we're insane that we care this much about this single costume. 2
Dragon_a
Nothing there I'd disagree with. Im glad that the level 2 requirements listed in the crl now reflect what Lancers are actually judged against (there had been some differences for some time).

That's something we really tried to be cognizant of with these revisions

MrPoopie
I still see a measurement listing for the crotch strap in level 1. Does this also mean that we'll see even more sloppy level 1 Scouts going forward with the removal of measurement requirements for strapping and such? This isn't really a question just a concern. I tried to keep the ones that were already there. And yes I share that concern
cheesewhoopy
One thing that I think would be good for level 1 is to put that the cummerbund should not go below the belt. And also, there should not be massive gap between the pouches and the belt. I’ll try not to be too judgemental, but I’ve seen some very “interesting” decisions made when people make there cummerbunds. In a lot of ways it’s one of the make or break pieces of the costume, so if that could be as specific as possible for level 1, hopefully that will alleviate those interesting choices.

I'm hoping this language will handle that: "[Cummerbund] Extends from just under the chest armor down to the belt." PLUS "Belt is worn on the waist and not on the hips"

Barber
I have one observation that I am having trouble with in the wording. The helmet bolts. For basic approval it says they are flat. Then for level 2 they should be concave. To me, this is a contradiction. So if I submit pics to my GML and my bolts are concave, they in essence would not meet basic approval because they are not flat.

The GML should read and be aware of the other levels requirements for a costume. I don’t think you having pieces of lancer in your basic approval should have any effect on approval. By that logic, everything would have to be 100% lancer to get approval or 100% basic.
Barber
I totally agree. But I also think that level 2 shouldn’t contradict level 1 requirements. Level 2 should merely be a more detailed and specific set of requirements built upon level 1. I think the rest of the crl does a great job at that. A great example would be: Level 1: single black elastic strap. Level 2: Black elastic strap is 2” wide. I don’t think my GML will have any issues. That was more of a hypothetical.

I can understand what your saying. The specificity could trip people up. Maybe saying the helmet bolts are to be flat or concave for basic. Then strictly concave for lancer would be better?

Part of my doing Level 1 from the ground up was to read the old instructions and try to figure out why they were there and see if they could be simplified. The reason the "flat" instruction was in basic was because so many of the old helmets back in the day had rounded bolts. That's not really an issue anymore so the language doesn't serve the purpose it once did.
BikerScout007
I made the change. Thanks everyone! The more eyes we get on this, the better CRL we are going to have.

While we don’t approve at level 2 since that’s for the det‘s to do we do recognize and accept level 2 building techniques when approving for basic. The best CRL is one that the GML doesn’t have to post to the 501st forum for approval help because all the info is there in front of them. This is all good stuff!
NegativeEleven
Aside from different ways to hang pouches and new cummerbunds as my waistline grew, I haven't worked on my scout much since approval in 2013, but it looks like I picked the right time to give up on Retrobrite and just paint all the armor. I was about to order new elastic, and thought I should check to see if the sizes had changed. They have, I see. I know I probably missed a bunch of conversation on this, but shoulder bridge material is now supposed to be the same color as the pouches/side strap/drop box strap. I disagree. My GML made me do that for approval initially, then we got a new GML and I showed him screen caps and talked about how that wasn't even in the CRL at the time. I think the pouches, side straps (under arm between chest and back), and drop box straps all match, but the shoulder bridge is always white. I had it white (with everything else off-white), had to lightly spray paint elastic to get 501st approval, then 6 months later made new white ones and I thought I was done. I know it's optional, but is there a screen example of this?
BikerScout007
It's optional and only for Level 2 so you are fine if you leave yours white.
CatfoodRob
I also believe there were no tan coloured shoulder bridge webs , only white . i see mention of the bicep t piece greeblie, but haven't been able to find photos of the left bicep one anywhere , are we sure they are handed ? Do we have access to accurate screen caps of the main greeblies on the armour ? Yes I know I'm new here, but I'm also a screen accurate fan . NegativeEleven
Also, has "pouches affixed to bund" always been in there? The one Han throws against a tree clearly has pouches attached simply at the top cause they flop all the way up.
