Bootstrap Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Hello everyone Ive had my scout active for going on 4 years now, and frankly getting a little bored with the standard variation. Has anyone done anything differently to kind of enhance or improve there costuming experience. I dont think my helmet is big enough ( or my head is small enough) to fit alot of electronics in it. Ive tried different costumes and tend to find myself not enjoying it for one reason or another.
Lordwoodsman Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Can you post a pic of your armor? I've only done 7 official troops over the last couple months so take these thoughts for what they are worth. Is it the costume or what interactions you are having that are making it less enjoyable than you'd like? Do you run chatter? I have the bluetooth imperial comlink on my belt. I run the chatter through it as well as calls and text notifications. Lets me stay in character and gives some life to the costume. A set of binders can be fun with the right individuals. Make sure it's their idea and it fits the vibe of the event. I love my DLT-19 sniper rifle w/scope at events that ok blasters. My speaker grieble on the front of my helmet is my voice speaker. Small amp sits on top of my head. All self contained in the helmet. Trooping with other TKs and TBs can be more fun than being the only one. Easier to get into character and have some fun with the role.
Bootstrap Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 I dont really run any sound. I have a mic and amp, and am considering some wireless options. Do you think its possible to send me a schematic or picture of your set up? I also have a pair of binders, thats a good idea. My first thought for a "revamp" was to build a shadow scout, but I decided that was much more of a convention type costume. A DLT-19 wouldnt be to difficult to make either.... I also thought about attaching an ewok to my shoulder or back ( for fun troops) just to add a little bit to the character. 1
BikerScout007 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Sound can enhance the experience for sure. The people sure seem to get a kick out of it. I was doing the old "Aker in the pouch" set up for awhile, but I wasn't liking the way it was weighing my pouch down so I stopped doing it. Screen accuracy is more important for me but everyone gets different things out of costuming. I'd just be careful that any "enhancements" you add don't run afoul of your local Garrison's rules on trooping. In So Cal we are expected to be screen accurate on troops, so walking around with a severed Ewok head or the like would not be allowed. Check with yours and find out!

Ill have to ask around, but dont think it would be a problem. Alot of our troops in the area are small scale, fun, troops. Going back to the sound idea... Is there a different set up you would recommend over the amp in the pouch?
BikerScout007 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I've been itching to try mounting the speaker inside my chest armor and using a bluetooth microphone to connect to it. Just haven't gotten around to it! I'm sure some of the fine folks on this forum have tried it though. Maybe one of them will chime in.
Tjeccles Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 A few of the TKs I handle for have a speaker in their chest plate and it works really well. Granted it is a different costume.
Bootstrap Posted August 21, 2018 Author Posted August 21, 2018 What is the zip tie method for shoulder bells? Im intrigued by it.

Lordwoodsman Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 The comlink and binders are Disney, but only sold at the theme parks. So you either need to go to one or pay a little more and get them from etsy/ebay resellers. Com going for around $25. Imperial Binders around $20. My DLT-19 is a hyperfirm (b run) from HFx Productions. $275 w/shipping. Then I added a picatinny rail and a $20 scope. If you do the comlink, i suggest adding a short piece of white elastic cord to keep it in the belt clip or you'll be panicked about it falling off during troops. I can provide a photo if interested. No paranoia No struggle Quick kitting up Hard to see whats holding them in place too :)
CLINK Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 I bought a bluetooth mic and speaker that is used for teachers to speak in class. I mounted the speaker in the pouch and the mic in my snout. It lasts about 4 hours. So I kind of like it for now. Amazon about $65. Love the no wires but the pouch needed more velcro because is it heavy.
