TahliaEspen Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Hello! My friend and I are just starting to create our Shoretrooper armors. We are very lost on where to start and the forums are large and hard to figure out where to start there as well! I would like if anyone can start me off with some guidance in general with building any set of armor or pointing me in the right direction but I also have a specific question. In your opinion, what plastics are good? I dont like the idea of having a flimsy feeling plastic which is what the kits ive seen on youtube look like. I was looking at etsy for 3D printed ones. Would these be a better option? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk Best place to start is here: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showforum=116 We have vendor lists and loads of other information. Not sure what kits you've seen on YouTube, but the ones sold by the vetted vendors are anything but flimsy. Some are downright heavy. There is however, Sean Fields 3D print files circulating out there, and many folks have used them to print their armor. Here's a great thread about that here: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=18728 3
Smokeshow Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 If what the CL says still does not make it any easier to understand, just drop me a line and I will be glad to assist you. I 3D print and have made Sean's helmet in many different iterations and I can explain the difference between resin cast and printed and even pepakura.
KOtrooper Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I thought the plastic would be flimsy too but I have an ABS kit and it holds up really well. Also... it's lightweight. With your full range of motion being restricted, it's nice to not also be weighed down.
Smokeshow Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Exactly, a lot of people think this stuff will not hold up to the abuse of trooping, it’s actually the opposite and it’s half as heavy as resin casts.
Barber Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Hey there. I certainly remember that overwhelming feeling when I first built my shoretrooper. There are a few different materials that you'll find for shoretrooper kits. ABS plastic, fiberglass/resin casts, or 3d printed material. ABS is going to be the most lightweight and flexible. 3d printing can be pretty neat bc you can usually scale the prints to your build. The fiberglass and resin kits are heavy and a pain in the butt to modify. My kit was fiberglass, and while I love the way it feels, it's heavy for long troops. It was also tough to work on. Personally if I could do it all over again, I would go the ABS route. I see your location is in West Palm? That's Florida Garrison / Everglades Squad territory! Reach out to them and get on the FL501st boards. One big mistake I made when building my armor was not reaching out to my local squad for some help. I wish I did, it would have saved on a few headaches. The Everglades squad leader, Shaina, has done a Shoretrooper build and I am sure she would be happy to help or maybe they have an armor party sometime soon? Shaina goes by @inkydinki on the forums. 2
inkydinki Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Thanks James! Tahlia and I have talked and have been working on the armor at a few armor parties! Tahlia ended up going with Jim’s kit like ours! 2
BikerScout007 Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Not sure how this 9 month old thread got resurrected, but I'm really glad to see everyone pitching in. 1
Smokeshow Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 It's 9 months old? I did not notice that when I replied. And on a separate note, as soon as I get this printed Shoretrooper armor finished for a customer, I'm going to start on my Patrol Trooper! I really can't wait, it's been one I have wanted to do since the first pictures came out of the poster and the first sightings of the figure. 1
TahliaEspen Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 Resurrected threads! Yay! Yup to conclude this thread I picked Jim's fiberglass option. Though at armor parties I've taken a look at both printed and plastic options and they are really nice and will deff consider them for future armor projects. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk 3
