TB-7076 Posted April 19, 2006 Share Posted April 19, 2006 I think a vest is probably the best way to go. I advise to go for a solution as the vest cummerbund combo discussed for the scout, just that the upper part is made of camomaterial. That there is no tan vest going all over the torso you can see in various pictures where the area under the arms are dark as well as the back/neck area. I also don't think the vest is opened at the front but again in the back. The belts are covered by the amounts of pouches the barc is surrounded with. Only the buckle can be guessed as the front boxes' (thigh boxes) strapping goes in the same way to the center of a supposedly buckle as the scouts' do. Transferered to real life I would say there needs to be foam bricks of let's say 10 mm elevation under the fabric and a gab at least of the same dimension. Might be that this is simulating armor shards implemented into the material. The pouch there might have a similar flap pattern but it got a more horizontal stretched look and seems zto be smaller. My rough image of the back 8 pieces of 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" along the top leaving a section out in the middle 8 pieces of 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" along the bottom also leaving a section out in the middle Apply strapping through the middle going from top to bottom with four slots to hold pouches with alice clips and then running from side to side stitched at both ends round to the hip another strap to hold the four pouches. Mollie gear is in circulation for our U.S. troops and I can't imagine kevlar is simple to cut up and sew, plus I'll bet it comes with a not so friendly price tag... I did'nt mean to modify the actual vest but adapt / use some of the visual aspects of it. I was thinking making urethane rubber molds of the "blocks" and placed on a flexible material. Guest tk465 Posted June 5, 2006 Share Posted June 5, 2006 Okay here's my take on the vest layout.....granted this is CGI and the boys who layed it out can pretty much do as they please. In all likelyhood the two would be seperate...the webgear and the under armor "soft good" type vest layered upon eachother. If you think about it, you want an armored mid-section for protection, but you want the ability to move around as well......honestly to me I think you would need to go with a solid color undervest which would simply be a flat piece of material that would wrap around the body or make a vest period. From there you would sew on velcro in strips to accept individual armor plates that would be cut into the strips that are shown in the one previous layout that skywarker 1982 posted...I suppose it's all up to interperatation but if you were going to make a flexible hard type vest that would be the reasonable assumption to make in this situation. Also with using hard armor strips you could make hardpoints to attach the various pouches to the armor. I still think there is going to be a belts along the midline to hold up the lowermost pouches and the same could be assumed that a type of webgear would run up each shoulder to hold the longer pouches, well really all the pouches in place. As for settling on a color...I think your going to have to rely on painting the fabric with an airbrush to get it to match the armor...sure you would want to start with an olive green or similar base color fabric but in the end you would still need to paint it to get it to match the patteren on the armor. This wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination since it's not unheard of to paint up equipment to match a particular theater of operation when your pressed into new fronts and don't have the luxury of having things made for each field operation. Yes it's only a movie but if you bring it into a real world type context where you have troops moving to many different fronts they cant just make new armor for every man in the field.
