spyder918 Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 So I'm coming from being quite familiar with TK builds. Looking to start on my TB soon. I noticed with a lot of builds on here that most use strictly velcro to velcro. No snaps are really used. Is there a reason for that? Especially with the shoulder bells and front/rear plates. Is it just easier to adjust with velcro or? The thing I love about snaps is you can set it and forget it. I'd like to know your thoughts. 1

Not sure why snaps never really made it over, but if I had to guess it would be because the Scout is meant to be a more active, mobile and adjustable costume and snaps might keep things a little too rigid. But as long as the outside appearance looks the same, use snaps to your heart's content! 1
Chopper Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Yeah, it's an interesting question that I've wondered myself as well. There's one scout in my garrison who did use snaps, but he came over from the TK side, like you, so that's probably why he went that way. As Mickey said, there's no reason you can't use snaps as long as the end result is the same. In fact, I'd be curious to hear about how well it works on your scout armor once everything is finished up.
762s Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 ive seen snaps used on a tb, on the drop box belt area. that seems okay, but, your not adjusting anything if you need to. ive seen snaps used on the shoulder bridge area but, imo it looked to bulky in that area as for snaps on the upper armor im not sure it would work all that well, and i think the flex/movement would be restircted ... plus, we dont see snaps on the screen used scouts, we see a sewn patch of velcro on the side strap coming from the back armor looped through the front armor and attached onto the strap. you probably could have a snap on the strap on the back armor and then have the strap looping through the front armor and back around attaching to the velcro on the strap. as for the shoulder bells they are meant to be free floating and not attached to anything but, a couple zipties and a small elastic band around the arm, to add snaps to this piece and the flight suit it would mean the movement of the shoulder bell armor would be restricted. if you choose not do the ziptie method, i think you would have to much bulk trying to add snaps to the shoulder bridge of the armor and then another snap to the strap that would be holding the shoulder bell. i thinks it is alot easier to align things with velcro, for instance my drop boxes where to low and needing adjusting, pull the strap from the velcro and adjust. if i had snaps there i would have to had added more snaps to make the adjustment.

Makes sense. I would think with every troop, you'd have to re-adjust, make sure again everything lines up just so. Only advantage I see with velcro especially on the sides between the front and back plate is if your weight fluctuates then you can easily accommodate the changes. Good points though! 1
Dart Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 The only place I use snaps is to attach the webbing that holds my chest and back plates together at the shoulder. Velcro usually does the trick everywhere else. 1
Stroker Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I can't tell you had bad I hate snaps! Velcro and glue!!! 1
BlitzJaeger Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I have snaps on my shoulder bells and will gladly show you pics if you like. The rest I suggest velcro...I tried snaps on the chest armor, knees and other armor - not great. It doesnt flex well in those areas and especially on the chest armor is a bit hard to put on. I would suggest velcro from experience trying both (50+ troops)
