the weathering may be abit to much for lancer ...

i have seen a couple applications that the review team requested to remove some of the weathering.

maybe, one of them could chime in here to let you know?

I found out my pouches are too long, wide and deep. Can someone send me a good pouch building thread? Mickey indicated 6 x 5 x 2. Mine are 7 x 6 x 2.3

i had to rework some pouches too ...

reuse what you have, flip them inside out, remove the stitching, make new lines, resew them to the dimension bikerscout007 gave you

I commissioned someone to make them so I hope that I don't end up unstitching them and can't figure out how to put them back together.

  • 3 weeks later...

My kit has been submitted for approval into my GML I will post pictures when I get my computer back on Thursday in the meantime I am wondering how to get my blaster stuck in the holster so I'm not worrying about it during troops.

Good luck Jake!

I saw that you're using a hyperfirm and from my experience they should sit pretty securely in the SC holster. Some folks use magnets in the blaster and holster but that's a little tricky with the all rubber hyperfirm, since there's no metal to attach to.

You could add a magnet in the blaster but that would take some surgery.

The reality is that the boot holster is a finicky design that frustrates many a scout!

Good luck with your Lancer application, Jake.

Thanks Chopper, is it ok that I apply for Lancer so soon after getting my level 1 authorization? Do a lot of scouts do it this way?

It's about 50/50. I didn't do it off the bat myself, but others submit as soon as they're approved. Certainly nothing wrong with going for it if your kit is ready.

I just built it with Lancer Specs in mind. The main concern that I think might disqualify me is the Weathering. I toned it way down from where I had it but it is still pretty weathered.

Has anyone had a chance to take a look at my application and can give me feedback?

So I have 4 troops under my belt and one of my belts broke off the end of one side of my belt and the other side is cracked. Is it frowned upon to reinforce the back of the belt where the rivets attach if I'm trying to go for lancer? Does it matter for that purpose?

I'm guessing it broke bc the single rivet was taking the full stress of the belt closure? There's ways to alleviate this, but it would help if you could post a photo of the damage?

am I ok continuing to troop with these or should I stop until their mended. I was talking to Mickey and he suggested that I create an ABS slurry. but I don't know where to find extra ABS at to create the slurry off of. I was considering on getting a piece of ABS about the same thinness of the belt. Then cutting out a shape to match the one broken off and then try to slurry it and the part that is cracked on the other side to fix them. I have never done this sorta thing before.

Did you save any scrap pieces from your build? I think that, yes, cutting a small part to fit the missing portion would also work.

Here's my opinion, so you can both repair and reinforce your belt, but also make sure it doesn't crack again:

1) Drill out those rivets

2) You're going to need to reinforce the section that cracked. Get some pieces of styrene sheet, spare abs, or a piece of those plastic yard signs you can get at the hardware store or home depot. Cut two sections the same size as the rectangular piece jutting from the back of your belt. Once you trim them to size, glue them to the back of the belt using devcon plastic weld.

3) Once the reinforcement has dried, you can use scrap abs to make a slurry and fill in the cracked portion. You could also cut a small triangular section to fit into the missing piece, and then fill in whatever gaps are left with abs slurry, or cauk.

4) Drill a new hole through the reinforcing strip and get ready to re-rivet your belt. Loop your belt through, then put a second reinforcing piece of plastic behind the cloth portion of your belt. Then add a backing plate and rivet it together.

You can see how I did it at the center right edge of the image below. I also extended and adhered the cloth portion of my belt further into belt, so that that single rivet isn't taking the full load.

i figured i would need to cut out the rivets, patch the break, fix the cracks and then re-rivet and re-rivet,

i had my belt break/crack pretty bad within a few troops too ....

heres my fix and it has worked well so far ...

scrap abs plastic, ca glue(medium) with insta-set

cut some scrap abs and bend it to the shape you need

take the ca glue and glue the scraps to the broken areas

and like chopper mentioned, use a backer for the riveted area ... i glued my backer to the plastic belt then riveted through it.

http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=19151&hl=&fromsearch=1 this is the link to my Lancer application.

Strider gave these fixes - cod piece: upper part need more padding

- belt sits too high; as a rule of thumb the pouches should sit on top of the belt

- mud flap should be about an inch wider

- TD tube: color should be a medium grey

- suit is bunched up between the knee guards and the boots

Optional but recommended:

- boots: the sole (particularly the front part) is too big

some of them i feel are easy fixes. Like pulling the pant legs down so that they don't bunch up. Others I am a little more confused about like The Soles being too big. Am I supposed to cut the soles so that they're not so wide?

I think I can detach all the pieces off of the corrugated tubing and then I can spray it all up with a darker grey. The mud flap needing to be wider is just a matter of buying a new piece of leather and attaching to the suit and then I may need to build another Cummerbund that is longer vertically so that the pouches sit better. I also have more filler to make the upper part of the cod piece tighter. If you need me to upload pics here I can. I just didn't want to resubmit images from my application. I can if you need me too.
