The Wayner Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Well since Sept when I started my build, I’m 95% done. It been a fun journey and I’ve learned a lot from all of you guys. Without this site it would have been a mess. Thank you. Im almost done. All I have left is the vest. Grrrrr. I’ve tried the t-shirt version but it looks and feels to thin/cheap. It won’t stay in place and stretches too much. So I’m trying to make my own. The first version was not bad, but the sleeves weren’t long enough and too wide. I’m thinking of having one made, but might try the sleeves again. Then I’ll finish with securing my bund to the vest. After that, it will be submission time. Anyway, just wanted to post and see if y’all catch anything I’m missing. -the shoulder bell straps came until during this photo session. I’ll have to glue them back or opt with Velcro on the vest. 2
762s Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 looks good .. maybe, move the pouches out .. they should be 1" away from your last line on cummerbund something i just learned about and not sure how many people are aware of it. but, the elbow armor ... the square greeblie that has two dots on it .. those dots face forward ... so, there is a left and right elbow armor chef makes a top notch vest too!! good luck with approval! 1
The Wayner Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 -bund pouches haven’t been “locked†in place yet. I’m gonna add some extra Velcro to hold them in place. But the 1†rule is good. Thx Sorry this was just my first time to finally put everything on. I actually have L and R on the insides of the bicep pieces. Guess I over look that. I promise I’ll have all in order when I post up before submission app. I’ve reached out to Chef but nothing back. Also another that Bikerscout007 recommended. Still gonna try one more time on my own before buying. 1
The Wayner Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 The slight bend in the visor is a SC dead giveaway.
Retrofire Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Look good for the first suit up. How’s it feel to wear the armor? Look like the strapping has slipped a little on that left shoulder bell and its rising up may want to lock that down. I have a Chef vest and I love it. It’s solidly made and has endured 54 troops so far and still going strong. 1
BikerScout007 Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Looking good! Yup get those shoulder bell straps on there for sure. the outer edge of your pouch should roughly line up with the outer edge of your armor. See below: https://postimg.org/image/d7iowhi3j/ And hit up Chrisx909x for a vest.

I used an epoxy that didn't hold on the shoulder bells. That will be fixed. I guess that's the point of making a couple of dry-runs with everything on to see what holds and doesn't fit right. I've reached out to Chrisx909x about the vest. I'm gonna give it one more try on my own before I resort to buying. -Interesting note, the whole thing feels great. It's really not a bad costume to wear, lots of mobility. Everything is easy to put on myself, except the vest. But, man does the boot holster really stick out! LOL. Even though it's only hanging out a few iches, I already banged it a couple of times around the house. I will be added some Velcro to my suit to help hold it up and closer to my legs if it hits anything else. 2

It's the tank for me especially when backing up. Remember to add a magnet to the holster and blaster to keep it in place during troops. Especially when taking a knee to visit with the little ones at their level. You don't want to look down and see an empty holster! 1
M.J Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I'm a bit late to the party....everyone here has pretty much covered it. Just a little tip. Keep your chin up with photos, looking through your lens does tend to tilt your head down and not realise it. I've had many photos looking like I'm looking down when I'm not and was quite disappointed. Otherwise looking good ! 2
The Wayner Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 Roger that! Side question- do/have y’all used money for costumes as tax write off? (Charity work/entertainment business) 1
Retrofire Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I never have. It would be interesting explaining to an IRS auditor about your armor that’s for sure!
The Wayner Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 Volunteer Work People who volunteer their time and expertise believe they have something valuable to offer. So, you may find it distressing that your services, expert though they may be, are worth a tax deduction of precisely zero. This rule is not unique to volunteer work; in fact, it is consistent with other tax laws. With only rare exceptions, the general rule is that you must spend cold, hard cash or give away stuff before you may claim a deduction. However, you may deduct many of the expenses you incur for volunteer work, including: the cost of hosting a party or fundraiser for the organization advertising that you buy on behalf of the organization supplies you purchase to be used in volunteer work, such as stamps and stationery the cost of a required uniform (and the cost of keeping it clean), and 2
The Wayner Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 I finally finished my vest. These are my basic app photos. Critics welcome. 2
Retrofire Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 You're looking really good! I don't see anything major at all. Some of the minor items you might want to address are pulling your flight suit tight at your legs once you get your knees and boots on. I added elastic stirrups to my flight suit legs to help with this. Your thigh boxes look a touch too low and you might want to raise them. Should be about an inch from your belt. In your left side photo it looks like your balaclava isn't up enough and I can see a splash of white under your chin. Not sure if this is the chin cup or not. All those are minor fitment issues and I don't see any reason you couldn't sail through basic approval. Excellent job!
The Wayner Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 Thank you. That’s my chin strap under helmet. I still wanna add Velcro to my arms to help hold armor in place. Those boogers move around a lot! Ha And that vest, geez, I saved that for last and it took too long to make it right. Mostly sleeves right length and working around the straps from the shoulder bells. But I managed to see through the trouble and finally got it right. Now, boy is this whole thing warm! Can’t imagine come summer for a troop at the local MLB ballpark. Maybe I’ll start with inside hospital visits first! Lol Thanks again guys. It’s still a work in progress. I’m still working for Lancer but hopefully I get approved basic and have some time to work on getting everything right. Btw, I did this because I was 5 year old kid who watched Star Wars from my dad lap. Now I’m a hero to my two litttle girls who think Dad is “super coolâ€!!! 2
Retrofire Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 That’s awesome! I was 8 when I saw ANH in the theatre and have been hooked ever since. When you’re ready to go Lancer let us know there are a host of folks that will be happy to help you. 1
