This photo makes me think I'm close but its a little hard to tell out of context of the rest of the armor. May wait to do final weathering once I at least have at least the chest done and weathered. As someone who wore body armor and kevlar helmets for a living for twenty years, I can say with authority that unless you were in the field for extended periods of time, our gear had to have minimal "weathering" or the chain of command would starting having kittens. Unless you are going for the "I've been living in a foxhole for the past three months" look, I would suggest being conservative wit the weathering. I'm sure the Empire is not very forgiving on inspections, lmao. That being said, I love the aforementioned wartime look. Derp. 12 hours and 200g filament down the drain! Oh well, live and learn. Just a tad too big. 5% apparently. Pro tip: print out a slice of your print before committing to the whole thing. For the forearm I scaled down a bit and printed the bottom few layers so I could check for fit. Perfect! Most slicers have a 'free cut' feature where you can choose different places in the model to slice, you can use this if you need to check fit for areas in the middle of the print or other tricky spots. BrinkHouse Posted January 12, 2018 Author Share Posted January 12, 2018 A little update, shoulder bells, biceps, forearms and handguards are all done and working on paint now! Makes sense to finish each piece as I go so that I'm not just sitting around waiting for prints to finish and then looking at a giant pile of plastic at the end. That would feel a little daunting, I think! While the paint is a little soft I'll do some scuffing, sanding, kicking around on the ground, etc. to get some damage marks, however I'll save the paint weathering until I have bigger groups of pieces together and do them in one go with the helmet and pictures as my references. Sanded some drip marks and layer lines Battle scars [ Insides of the armor will be coated with plastidip once everything is done and the final clearcoat has been added to the external paint. The power of the Pro Bond Wood Filler! I realize the gaps on the sides of the center plate are a little more narrow in Seans design than the screen used armor, but I should be able to help fake it with some additional dark weathering in those areas, and it seems minimal enough as to not stand out or draw attention. Shoulder straps are on the printer now, and I'm doing the masking for the left bicep and forearm stripes. BrinkHouse Posted January 23, 2018 Author Share Posted January 23, 2018 Ok, small but big update! The back armor is finished printing and assembled! Woo! Lots of steps in this one, wish I had more photos but if you find yourself at this stage and need help or have questions, feel free to PM me. Thanks to Joel 'wannabeuk' for his help when I was confused, which happened more than once. Real quick- I finished sanding the chest armor and I sprayed it with a few coats of the black base coat and then the satin clear coat. While you see the buckles glued on here, I ended up pulling them off because I realized the locator pegs are positioned incorrectly in the design, which places the buckle too low. If you look at the real armor the inside bottom of the buckle is approx. 1/4" above the horizontal line of the center chest area. Decided to hold off gluing those back on until I've printed the straps and made sure those fit well. And here are a few photos of the assembled back armor. Need to add the hose greeblie to the inside of the left box and the peg piece to the outside middle but otherwise pretty happy with it! Of course had to tape the two halves and see it together. Note here the sides of the back armor have been trimmed, and the new side pieces glued on. Edges will be sanded and filled to blend the pieces together. Got my Dissident shirt in the mail today from Amazon UK! The only option was a navy blue XXL, but the price was right and I don't mind a little modification, clearly. I'll give it a few (one so far, hence the pink color) bleach baths and then dye it gray. As for the size, it's actually only a size too big, as I think this shirt runs way small, so a good hot wash and dry should shrink it just about perfectly! I may give it to a costume designer friend to cut a section out from the bottom to create the vertical ribbing in the chest area. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When finished you don’t want it to be visible that it is a 3D printed armor.
