Hey everyone!

For the longest time, I wanted to join the 501st since I thought it'd be a good way to both help do charitable work and be in a group with like-minded people. I decided to pick the Shoretrooper armor since it looked rad as hell in the film. I was wondering, what's the most efficient way to start building? The forum kinda makes it overwhelming to find a good guide on this sorta thing. Anyway thanks for the time reading this, I hope to be joining you all soon.

Hello and welcome aboard, research is the key, also look at other build threads.

hello,

i think gmrhodes13 hit it on the head .. research.

i too was overwhelmed with the forums at first and where to get started, tmi as they say.

feel free to ask questions too.

as well, be patient with your build. im moving into 4 months and still waiting to start/complete my first build.

im sure you can rush it but, is there a need to do so?

some members suggest join your local garrison for help ... for me the local aspect is not as useful as the detachment.

though you still should join up with your garrison.

good luck and have fun with your build(s)

Sorry to sound cliche, but the advice above is correct: doing your research will save you from making mistakes (and costing you money).

There is a lot of information here and in your local garrison, never underestimate the benefit of seeing someone else's armour in person.

Everyone gets the feeling of information overload, but there is a lot of help to be found on here.

HI ya Ryan and Welcome!

You got some great advice.

Just something to help...When reading and researching your costume, make a folder in your computer, place every picture you see or write up. I made my Scout quite a number few years ago and I still have that same folder and continue to add to it. There is always new information or other ways of creating or building a piece.

Good luck and we are here to help!

as above yes. i want to stress that pictures that seem irrelevant now (because you're not there yet), store them in a folder. I am in the middle of building and spending alot of time trying to re-find certain "how-to" or "where-to" pictures.

Here are the Screenshots of the movies. Might be usefull later if you want a closer look of the screen used suits.

Also, this hobby ain't cheap, so start saving so that you won't have to skimp on your costume. Nothing sucks more when you need a piece but you just don't have the cash.

Reach out to your local Garrison and meet up with members who have already done the costume! You can learn from their mistakes

As another newbie, I'm working on my soft parts first. Anything I can make, I'm going to try to make before I look to buy. My first problem is making sure I have templates, or that I have plenty of reference pictures. All in all, it really looks like we have to go with research, creativity, and frugal shopping.
