Mr.Mike
I have been shopping locally and am having very poor luck finding a boot with a single color gum rubber yellow/tan sole. The other challenge is light weight, non insulated and not water proof. Years ago I had an Israeli canvas boot with a side zip that I started a build with. It was very light and breathable. I can't seem to find anything like it now. I did find these but the color of the sole is quiet off. These Palladiums are iffy too as they say "Pallaium" on the heel. ugggg. I need some help sourcing a base boot please. Lancer is the goal of this build. canvas boot from H&M http://www.hm.com/us...0170903172835:s Palladium boot https://www.amazon.c...25&sr=8-16&th=
stasz
If worse comes to worse, you can paint the sole. If you have a KMart near you, their basic "Texas Steer" brand boot is super cheap ($20), single color, gum colored sole. Inexpensive enough that if you really screw up it's not to hard on the wallet, and with some decent insoles, very comfy for extended trooping. Mine are gong on their 3rd year. The thing I like thinking about the palladiums is the more sneaker like profile. Mine, being based on a work boot are pretty beefy though the look enough the part... I remember the palladiums going around a couple years ago, as they are very similar to a Lugz boot that in itself was probably the closest to the Sierra IVs in something that was produced relatively recently (canvas upper, etc). I don't recall a build thread using these to see how they ended up. The HM looks just like the palladiums. Either would work, and depending on your GML, the sole color might pass as is. But again, could easily be painted. I'd be curious to see how the heel cuts come out since they have a lot of material removed already. Mr.Mike
The biggest difference between the HM and paras is the para has some words molded into the heel on the sole itself (see below) I think it would be difficult to make disappear. I really want to avoid painting as that requires upkeep and constant fixing. Thanks for the option of the k-mart boots
stasz
If you went this route, I bet you could slice those letters off right quick with a razor blade or utility knife blade parallel to the sole itself and cut straight down "behind" the letters. If you use the right paint, it holds up quite well. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact type/brand but someone will chime in. Either way, you're off to a good start doing the research and asking questions. Good luck! Sent from my LG-LS993 using Tapatalk
Mr.Mike
Thanks man! I found some with the yellow gum sole, they are waterproof though (hot). We'll see where this rabbit hole takes me https://www.amazon.c...oots&th=1&psc=1

cheesewhoopy
I'm really liking the H&M boot. The thing that always bothers me using work boots is how beefy they are as stasz mentioned. Those have a nice low profile like the originals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The color bothers me a lot but I suppose it could be painted, it just bugs me to no end having paint on something so flexible, I know how it will go down in the end haha

We'll see where this rabbit hole takes me https://www.amazon.c...oots&th=1&psc=1 problem i see with these boots .. several issues come mind ~ the toe is built up with that rubber reinforcement quite a bit ~ the rubber on the top of the sole wrapping around the boot might be an issue ~ the sole doesnt seem tall enough to get the cuts into it that are needed good luck
Chef
Palladiums are nice boots (I'm wearing a pair right now!). The gum sole and toe fillet are very similar to the original Hi-Tec Sierras, but the sole pattern is very different. I am sure they can be made to work in a similar fashion. The Palladiums are a commercial version of the Israeli Defence Force boot. The IDF ones tend to be a bit cheaper than the commercial Palladiums. http://www.ebay.com/itm/IDF-Scout-Commando-canvas-TAN-Boots-Made-in-Israel-/121052052083 (you can probably find them much cheaper than this...). The soles are a bit off in colour, but not by a huge amount. These are what the Endor Commando's (rebel scum) are using for their base boots instead of the Sierras. Chopper
If you end up using the Palladium's I'd be real curious to see how the vinyl layup turns out. Would it be best to use E6000 or Shoe Goo to affix the canvas to the vinyl? Or something else entirely?

Man I'm so torn haha
