cheesewhoopy Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 The more I look at my chest and look at screen grabs/ really accurate armor I realized mine just wasn't quite right so I did some cutting. Wanted to get some opinions on if it looks better and what could be done to make it even better (if possible). Here are my reference photos: Left is before, Right is after Left before, Right After I still feel like something is off. Maybe the part below the neck could be cut down? 762s Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 yeah, this is the biggest problem i have with alot of the armor out there...the chests are way off. but, i think you are pretty close. for me i would take it in abit more ... i did a quick sketch, see pic, instead of trying to explain it. just be careful not to cut down into the V of the neck .. and the side look like the could use a bit more tapering closer to vertical, esp, at the top of the shoulders. as well, the neck has radius at the bottom area then turns vertical near top of shoulders. the original armor looks to have like 2 "strap" at the top of the shoulders and tapers down to the angle. anyways, i think you are getting close, abit more trimming and i think you will get it. good luck .. and here is my very rough suggestion 1
gmrhodes13 Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I think you came down a little too straight on the sides, if you look at the top reference photos they are angled outwards from top to bottom. Makes the radius you cut look a lot sharper than those in the reference too. If you take too much out of your neck you will loose the point of the centre ridges so I'd be very careful there.
M.J Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I'm in agreement with the guys, you came down a little to straight. Fixing it would be making the upper neckline thinner bringing in on an angel, to which it looks thinner compared to yours. Good on you for making the changers.

You're totally right, it's too straight on the sides now. I think for now I'll clean all the edges up and leave it be. Don't want to cut anymore and make it look worse. Maybe I should've left it be. cheesewhoopy Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 I suited up with everything on to see how it looked. It's not perfect, but I do think it looks better than before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Eyeslave Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 OCD is a curse I think like the guys said, the line may be slightly too sharp. If you look at the reference pics, it tapers off closer to the L Shape. So where you tapered it off above your weathering spot, looking at the reference pics, it should curve off lower. I hope that makes sense. I wonder if you do that will it improve the look. Tricky suggestion when cutting into armor, so some more feedback on that from others would be great. The cut line looks pretty parallel to the L detail in the Reference pics, and yours looks similar, so maybe your curved off too sharply?

Just drew it in black to see how it would look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BikerScout007 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 No I would just leave it. Even if you brought it in more on the sides, the problem is the middle bit is too long. I've talked with Walt about this and I think his chest armor is probably about 2-3 inches too high. Here is the WTF, Strider, and SC side by side: I don't think the angle of his cuts are off, it's more just the overall dimensions. 3

Oh wow seeing them side by side I totally didn't realize the WTF chest was that much bigger! I actually think given my body size, I wouldn't be able to pull off Strider's chest, as beautiful as it is. I guess I lucked out with WTF in that sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
cheesewhoopy Posted August 19, 2017 Author Posted August 19, 2017 Ok after an event I did last weekend, looking at pictures I knew I needed to give this one more shot. Here is my final result. I also made a new cummerbund because I found a material that looked more accurate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Eyeslave Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Looks better dude. Mickey's comparison pics really shows how difficult it is to really nail an accurate look with various makers. Kudos for the job you did

Kudos for the job you did Thanks man! Mickey's photo really shows how oversized my chest was. I took just over 2 inches off the neck area. You can really see the difference in this pic.
