Templates for riding patches

Recommended Posts

Hi all, so i've been away for a while as have gotten married and had to focus time and money on that (understandably!) but i can now get back into finishing my costume!

I've bought a flightsuit, de-zipped/badged it and had it brought in a bit so not so baggy. I intend on altering the collar so it is less like a shirt collar and more 'Mandalorian' (is that right?!

Below are some pics of the thigh patches that i though it would get input from before i commit to cutting and sewing. Luckily i found a real black suede scarf on ebay so have that material to use and for the buttflap. I've outlined where i think they should be in masking tape and will use that as a guide.

My understanding is the patches should come to just above the knee?

Patches will obviously be mirrored on the other leg!

All input is gratefully listened to!

That looks just a bit to large an area for your riding patches. I would bring them up and in just a bit. Here's a really good thread to take a look at that will give you a good scale and pic of the movie Scout thrown in.

You can use an old pair of jeans to make it easier to get a pattern that fits your body and you can read more about it here:

Once you get your pattern sorted out remember to also pin in your elastic thigh straps before you sew the patch. It will save you a lot of extra work.

Keep up the great work and keep posting progress snaps!

Thanks very much, will have a look and adjust! Are the patches the same on the back of the legs as the front?

No, they are shorter in the back. Check out the posts and feel free to let me know if you have additional questions.

Might be a result of the photobucket-apocalypse that hit last month. I was able to see the pics on the web version though. Try the links on a web browser and me know if you're still having problems and we'll figure something out to get you the info you need.

One other thing to mention: when you're pinning in your thigh elastics, make sure they're a bit snug. When worn, they really shouldn't hang but rather act to gather whatever loose material is on the outside of your thigh. ;)
