For those of you that have used the zip tie shoulder bell connections, how well do the shoulder bells sit on your shoulders? I have the zip tie mounting bases and am planning on doing the connectors as seen here:

But I was just wondering if the shoulder bells sit up to high due to the loop in the zip tie and, if they do, what would be a workaround for it? Thanks!

You want that floating look. If th tie job is done half right you can't go wrong!

As far as I know, there was no loop. Not sure where everyone is getting that from. The anchor is in the bell and the other end is glued to the shoulder loop.

With mine I E6000ed the other end to another ziptie anchor, and then put velcro loop on the end of the anchor. Under the shoulder loop I put some velcro hook and it holds very well. I used the glue method for awhile but a spell of hot weather put a stop to that!

I'll try to post pics later.

I did mine like this with two anchors. To me it made the most logical sense. It's easy to adjust and swap out with a new zip tie if you want to change the fit.

When I was at celebration I took a look at the scout on display and thought it was done the same way.

Also in this classic photo we use as reference, when I look at it I definitely see a looped zip tie. My eyes could just be imagining it, but it definitely appears that way. 7a034b5fd6b8f8990cc23ba1e7e1d7f3.jpg

I didn't use a loop on mine. I ran the zip tie through a piece of nylon closed the tie and glued the end of the zip tie inside the bell.

I took about 1,000,000,000 pictures of the Scout at Celebration from just about every angle. I don't see any loop my dudes

Now do I think a loop would be more secure? Absolutely! And if that works for you and trooping, go for it. For me though, I have found that the more I make my costume like the screen used one, the more it behaves like one. Little things like attaching the cod to the vest, attaching the pouches to the bund, making the bund much shorter, using zip ties.... anytime I've made a change like that my Scout looks better and moves better. So I'm not as big on the hardiness of it or the convenience. But we are all in this for different reason!

My memory fails me! My bad. I guess in my excitement I thought I saw that. There's a pretty good chance I will end up changing mine now.

Does it look like the zip tie is attached to the white elastic strap under the armor?

On the right shoulder it looks like it's pulling it out

I've always thought so too Alan. That the zip tie is glued to fabric that is in turn glued under the shoulder join. And yes it looks like it is ripping out. But the blue screen Scout scenes were the last thing shot for the movie and I imagine by then these suits were being held together by a lot of tape, glue and bubble gum!

That what I've always assumed since I seen the pic.

Thanks for all the replies guys, looks like I'll go with the non-looped zip ties for the shoulders :)
