Artifact25
Ive seen many posts but still don't know where to start. I've found a few kits here and they're but in the end I worry about if the quality of if it would be approved. I've noticed vendor names tend to be on the downlow, which makes sense, we need to work for our armor. Put passion and research into it. Though I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or possibly give some pointers. Like any specific piece would you recommend to DIY instead of buying? Any help would be appreciated. I know I've dedicated the armor as a summer project with maybe a deadline of next year's Phx Comic Con, though I'm excited to get a head start. stasz
Sounds like you're off on the right foot already! Doing some research, set a very attainable deadline, asking the questions... For me, when I started my scout I had never done anything like this before. It wasn't so long ago that I've forgotten how overwhelming it can be... So to answer your question, I find a great place to start was building my boots. Got me in the mindset of working with unfamiliar materials, trial and error with different types of tools and different approaches... And if I screwed something up beyond repair I wouldn't be out a ton of money (luckily, I didn't). I ended up really enjoying making the boots and it was a huge confidence booster when the other parts started coming in. There's a great tutorial pinned in the boot forum. Almost everyone who's made theirs has at the very least used it as a reference, if not the "boot bible". So, that's what I would recommend as a good starting point. And it's a great way to get things under way while though might be saving up for armor or waiting for something to ship. Thank you for the heads up. I was planning to start with the helmet but after reading that, I too feel like I would get overwhelmed. I will most likely look into starting with the boots, and will definitely use the Boot Bible!
kayelbe
A good base boot are these. Pick up the vinyl at JoAnn Fabrics, and a box of push pins. A hair dryer, a heat gun, or the windshield of your car will warm the vinyl up plenty enough to stretch.

I was worried about where to find white vynl and luckily I'm close to plenty of Joann stores.
