3D Printed Armor (WIP)

Recommended Posts

This is amazing, and it's coming at the perfect time for me... we just had a maker space opened in my home town!

Can you tell us what body size this model is based on, for scaling?

These models are based on measurements taken from my SC armor as well as some measurements from the Strider armor. I'm trying to get as close to screen accurate models and dimensions as possible. This way larger/smaller folks can scale accordingly.

Knees finally done.

The chest should be finalized this weekend (hopefully) and then all that's left is the back.

Snout Greeble. I don't have any plans to model the helmet but the snout is easy enough and useful for many folks.

Do you have a link for the STL files for the tank topper?

Did you upload the chest piece somewhere? I haven't been able to find it yet.

I've got almost everything else printed out and they look great! The only piece I'll have to scale more than a bit is the belt, but that's only because I'm a bigger trooper through the middle.

It's nearing completion. I only have the front done. I'm currently working on the back and tank but it should be done very soon. I'll get the front uploaded today so you can start working on it. I'll update this post as soon as it's up.

woo Hoo HOO! My blaster has been printing all day, and should be finished around 5 or 6 am. I'll start posting pics soon... right now I'm just printing the pieces as you provided them, so I can gauge how much I need to resize them. Most are fitting a little snug, but the belt needs a significant resize to fit my frame.

The owners of the Maker Space in my home town are all impressed with the work you've done, too.

The armor is finally done. Unless I run into any weirdness of parts not fitting correctly and need adjustment.

Here's the front of the chest

The back of the chest and tank. Yes, the tank is a separate part from the back.

You, sir, are my personal hero right now. I've got all the files now, and am printing them out as quickly as I can.

I really should start a build thread for this...

EVeryone loves a good build thread. It might help with any weird issues that arise from putting it all together too. No matter how much thought goes into planning there will always be things that you didn't think of that need a little bit of re-working. I'm almost done printing the rest of the set. I still have to print the chest and back scaled to 85% for my girlfriend though. The only part I have totally finished is the TD, everything else is still just raw prints in a box.

I encountered one snag with the models (and I'm still assembling parts, so it may not actually be a snag)... the blaster seems to be about 1/8" too big (top to bottom) to fit in the holster. I'll be welding parts together tomorrow, and will check then, and get back to you.

I'm about to start up my build thread... should be up shortly.

I'll double check the blaster tomorrow but I think you may be right about it fitting incorrectly. I think I can just adjust the holster guard part without messing with the holster itself. I'll let you know what I find.

I adjusted the Holster Guard part (v1.1). Try to print the new part and see if it works better. It should print pretty quickly since there's not much to it.

Thank s for these files. I'm going to print your blaster next week . However have you thought about splitting the main body , like the blaster by Stryker on thingiverse ? It would then allow much cleaner prints without supports for the top section . As it is, the detailed top of the blaster has to lie downwards onto the print bed , making supports necessary and as we all know, then leads to much more clean up needed.

Just a thought .

Try these and let me know how it goes. I know it's going to weaken the point where the screws for the handle guard go in but that shouldn't be a huge deal because the handle guard doesn't really have any stress on it.

I've already started the ten hour print of the main body, upside down ( handle in the air) with supports, so it's going to be tomorrow evening before I can look at the new files. I'll print them and report back by Tuesday .( Sunday evening now ..I'm in the uk)

I can test print anything you come up with , glad to help.

I'm looking forward to the red dot sight print . I've spent a lot of time modifying other people's sights to get an accurate print of one, so I'm hoping yours is spot on . ( I'm sure it will be ! )

Ok. I was hoping to catch you before you started your print, oh well. With the single piece body I was printing mine with the scope side down to minimize the supports. It still wasn't a great method so the 2 part body will probably be better anyway. I have to reprint the blaster in a week or so for my girlfriend so I will be able to see how it works out. I'm always open to suggestions (and criticisms).

Hopefully I've sorted my problem of posting pictures ... I hate tapatalk but it seems to be the only way .

This is a photo of your blaster printed at 100 % with a correct period transistor placed on it . This shows your handle is maybe too small ?

The other blaster top half is the one from thingiverse printed at 110 %.

The top of your blaster , and particularly the nozzle look better , but the handle needs work in my opinion .

Sorry I couldn't send this photo as a p.m. But the image seems too big for the p.m. Uploader.

I have tried to add a couple of other photos, but again the uploader crashed thru tapatalk , and the straight website uploader tells me they are too big to upload .

Would you mind sending me the info about the transistor. That way I can try to get some proper dimensions to correct it. I can then figure out the proper dimensions for the handle too.

I don't even bother with direct images through the forum. I just use my Flickr or Dropbox. The image system here is pretty terrible.
