Ironically, a mic can actually be one of the cheaper components, however. I got a cheap eBay knockoff for $20 and it is incredible!

They are not necessary, but I disagree on whether scouts should have them (they should). What they didn't have on screen is the "click-pop" or static burst. Stormtrooper costumers use devices such as an IComm to get that burst.

I can't count the number of times people freak out when they hear me reply to them through the amp. They love it!

Here's a link to a wireless set up that I swear by. You can find them a little cheaper on Ebay. I hear there are some that now come with an amplifier for a few bucks more. Don't know the quality of the amp compared to my Aker, though.

I second on the crowd getting a pop out of the amplifier. I have an Aker with the speaker in my pouch. Kinda got tired of wearing it though, because I don't like the way it makes my pouch snag. Looking at putting it in my chest armor instead.

No but you can have a lot of fun with them, also if you fit electronics in a blaster and add an amp jack you can run that to your amp too, really can be heard at a loud convention ;)

I use the Aker amp with a PTT switch I hide inside the palm of my glove when trooping as a TIE. I hang the Aker around my neck and hide it under my flightsuit and behind the chest armor plate. Works great. The PTT switch wire is concealed inside the flightsuit sleeve. I plan to use this system with my Scout when finished. It really does improve the fan experience in my opinion when they can hear and understand you clearly.

For my TK I use the TRamp. it has scout settings as well. It works very well. It is basically and AKER with an eksra bit of software build in, to distort your voice. look it up on Facebook.

it is very popular in our garrison for most builds. As it har different voice programs build in

So I was speaking with a seller and he told me people are putting their speaker in the chest area instead of on the helmet region for Shoretroopers? Any validity to this and pictures?

No, however it allows people to hear you. It comes in handy if for whatever reason you need a handlers help.
