Chunk
Hi Scouts, It has been debated here what the original cummerbunds were made out of. With Blu Ray Hi Def screen caps we can see that the original bunds had a sheen to them. I think the material used was Taffeta, it is a nylon ployester blend and in some cases is waterproof. The material is used in wind breakers & shower curtains. It has a "silky" feel to it, has a sheen. Here is a few pics of the material, bund & with all together in costume.
Chopper
That definitely looks a lot closer to the slight shininess that you see on screen. Canvas doesn't have the same effect. Nice work!
Strider
That looks pretty good, bro - nice find. Another possibility is that they used a blend of polyester and cotton (say 50/50) which would also make it a bit shiny and stretchy as well. Retrofire
That's a great find. I'll have to give that a try. What did you use to pad the cod with? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Same foam as the bund, but also has a stiff backer to help keep the shape. Im not sure what you call it. Its white & very ruff. Almost feels like SUPER sandpaper. The texture help grip the foam until i sew it together. I can post a pic of it later if ya like.

I'm using batting but it's not giving me the consistent thickness I'm seeing on your bund.
Chunk
You cant really see what it is, but here is the backer. This is the ruff side, the other side feels like felt. Also the foam I use in right behind it.

Chunk
No, the thickness of the foam is closer to 1/8" thick.
