For those of you that have used a 3m speedglas headband inside your helmet, i was wondering what model you went with?? there are several choices on amazon and some seem larger than others. I am getting the Altmann helmet and want a nice headband in it but dont want it to be too big for the helm or have to make to many mods to it to get it to fit. anyone have a 3m speedglas headband and can help i would be thankful.

Amazon is a no go for what your looking for. Those welder headbands are for the new style welding hoods. What your looking for is the OG headband used in pipeliners helmets. Which I have some with the band. However your not gonna get the headband to work correctly in the ALT because of the size.

To Tim you listen, welder he is.

I used a 3M hard hat suspension for my Altmann's and it's worked well. Motorcycle helmet padding as well as military helmet pads have also been used by members of the community.

Retrofire do u know which 3m model u used?

There's really not a model number anymore. The picture Aaron posted above is what you want. It's a pipeliners helmet hardware. That's what all the welding supply stores call em. If you have a welding shop such as Mathison or so on in your area they will more than likely have what you want.

That should be fine. The grey bolt on the inside is what you use for scout visor. I actually set mine up so the grey bolt comes into the visor and helmet then into the headband to hold the headband in place. You might need to drill a new hole in the headband to get the position right.

It was the 9001 series headband that was used.

You can still get them, but the newer versions use a black bolt rather than a grey one and they are subtly different. The grey ones are slightly concave, whereas the newer ones are slightly convex.

Hey Peter,

I have an Altmann's also now along with the headband you mentioned in this thread, having trouble figuring out how to get it to fit with the existing bolts in the helmet. Could you send me some photos on how you set yours up? Are you going to the meet and greet this friday?

I have the bolts and the headband separate. If you got the 3M band it won't work with the bolts in the Altmanns lid. I'll bring my lid on Friday so you can take a look at my setup. It's a easy mod to do.
