Crex Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Greetings Troopers, So one of my 501st brothers donated his Don Post helmet to me after recently upgrading his helmet. I have always wanted to have a scout so now is my chance to start this journey. I thought I would share pics and get advice from all of you experts. Just a little background info on the helmet. It was previously grandfathered into approval for 501st standards when my buddy owned it but obviously standards have changed since then. Upon inspection, some modifications have been attempted. They are below. I will post pics for your own inspection. I would appreciate and invite all advice and comments. 1) The eyes and ears have been cut out. 2) The eye shield has been replaced. 3) Wire is located in the chin and top of the visor 4) Another wire was located in the dome but was loosely placed in there with putty Here are the modifications I plan on implementing. 1) Cleaning up the eyes and ear holes. 2) Filling in the face on the left side where there is a gap between the visor or shaving off the right side of the face to even it out out so the visor is more of an equal distance on each side. 3) Replacing a metal rod in the dome for more support 4) New snout, decals, screws and a new paint job. Check out the pics and let me know what you think. -CRex 1
Stroker Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Nice! I like the DP's when they've been modified. They make a nice helmet.
shwarzwald Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. If you can make yours approvable then I'll know what level I should aim with my don post. Heck I'm still working to get it back to default.
Darth Voorhees Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 They are def approvable when modded. Ive seen quite a few that came out very very nice. Crex looks like he did a great job on it! Here was one that i did a littel while back http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=13160 1
Crex Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Thanks! I still have a long way to go before I am happy with it but it is a start. I will post more pics after I have some more time. 1
