I have been reading several threads, and have noticed some people just use Velcro for the 2" wide nylon webbing and some people use a black parachute clip. (Jo-ann's name not mine). What is the general consensus? Or is it really personal preference?

It's hidden by the thermal detonator so the connection method doesn't really matter.

Mine is Velcro and it's the one Velcro area - along with the bund - that takes a beating (many times on and off) as opposed to my boots, which I can squeeze into without opening them up all the way, and my vest which I pull over like a T shirt.

My buddy Will did the clip and it works out really well. His thermal det is always attached to the belt around the clip and that was a little trick getting everything attached at first but it's easy on/off and you don't have to worry about the det coming off or some prankster snatching it.

To affix the TD to the belt, you may use several options in the center and the more hidden they are, the better it is. As seen on the recent WIPs, magnets are an options, also velcro dots are an option or whatever you may think of. However, the screen used holders for the TD were indeed the black clips (known since they were clearly visible in the Blue Ray version of Jedi and also part of the MoM mannequin.

Afaik, having the clips is not mandatory for getting basic aproval but they are defo mandatory for reaching Lancer status as per current CRL (lvl2).

Reference of TD clips and dimensions...

As an additional orientation you may have a look at my personal setup wich is a combination of both options in order to fit tight and to match the actual recomendations.

Hope this helps!

While your info is 100% correct, the OP is referring to the closure of the belt, i.e. the buckle. Just wanna point that out to eliminate any confusion.

The CRL for basic doesn't spell out how the belt is closed in the back, so either the parachute buckle or overlapping velcro is fine. For Lancer spec, the velcro is required.

Totally true! Dont ask me how I understood he is about the TD and its fixing Oo. Thank you!!!

And let me add: In this case, I would always use velcro for closing the belt, since the "parachute clip" makes affixing the TD again not very much easier ;)

Totally my fault I should have been a bit more clear. I meant the ends of the belt to complete the loop. Some people use just Velcro and some people use the black clips that "click" together. (like what you would see on a nylon police belt)

When i 1st made my scout i secured the belt with a "paracute clip". Ran with that fir a few years. When i made my wife's kit i made hers with velcro. I have since switched mine to velcro. Its ALOT easier to close with the velcro.
