Started off with a super cheap pair of Dexter construction boots from Payless for $16. Used white marine vinyl from Joannes. How'd it turn out?

They seem to fit pretty good. Wearing black jeans here, not the suit. Sorry in advance for potato quality.

Thanks for looking.

The boots look good overall. Nice job shaping the vinyl on the toe portion. But did you use a zipper on the back?

Here are some slightly less potato pics:

They look good. But just curious, did you use a zipper on the back? If so that's gonna hold you up on approval as it needs to be close up by 1 inch Velcro

Like the 'bund, a zipper wouldn't hold up approval if it was disguised with a Velcro flap over it. I don't see the advantage of going that route though.

If it is just a zipper though, it would need to have a simulated flap closure and that seems a lot of extra work as opposed to just closing with Velcro. Overall though, nice boot build.

I only mentioned it because it doesn't look like it's disguised by a flap. Can't tell for sure but it appears to be a zipper right down the middle.

Oh right on man. At first look I thought it was just the edge of the flap closure but I think you're right.

Thanks all.

Yes, it's a zipper. Velcro is messy and has a limited number of uses. A zipper lasts a lot longer and each use looks identical to the last, so it's quicker, too.

Afterall, I'm building this costume for me, not the 501st. If I can't join, so be it. Kinda done with costume clubs anyway, they're honestly ridiculous with how much conflict goes on lol

But good to know- must look like Velcro to be approved. Zipper looks better to me, but CRLs are CRLs.

Again, thanks for the kind words, appreciate it.

Side note:

Was considering not posting it here, but I did my cummerbund and vest with a zipper too for the same reasons. Plus I generally don't have a handler, a zipper is a lot easier to do alone. Velcro can be a hassle.

Go for it, my man! These resources are for everyone. Tailored and geared toward joining the 501st to be sure, so be prepared for replies that reflect that...

But we can all still learn from eachother, mate! I look forward to seeing your progress.

Hi ya Eric, you did a awesome job. Nicely shaped at that front too.

I just read your ok if for you not 501st, glad you like our forum.

Though this tip helps, next time you build your boots you don't need to glue the complete crossover piece to the front of your boot, just the sides, this helps in movement and less wear and tear.

Your Zipper is a good idea, though I love my Velcro it's worked well for 5 years and counting, mind you I gotta ask how do you go pulling it up from the bottom back?

If you come up with some great idea's please share!! love to work out easier was to make things
