Erik R Posted February 21, 2017 Share Posted February 21, 2017 So I've made my cummerbund and thought I had it all well measured but by the time I finished it ended up about and inch shorter than I'd like on the top and about an inch and a half too short on the bottom. So, at this point, I can't use 2 inch velcro! I'm thinking of using a zipper. It would make for a perfect fit. I mean, I'd sew it so the zipper would be invisible, but would this be unapprovable? Even if I were to put some thread lines to give the appearance of having velcro sewn in? I assume Lancer would be out, but maybe not basic approval. If I couldn't join 501st it would be disappointing, but after that first cummerbund I'm game to make another. Had no idea it would go so smoothly. The vest gave me far more grief. I added an extra 3" of fabric to my Cummberbund after having the same problem though and sewed it so it looked like it was Velcro's shut but the zipper really seals it to my body. Many of us actually have bunds that are too long, causing them to stick out below the belt, or the belt worn too low to cover the extra bund length. It's really not as long as you'd think. The problem is not that it doesn't work well because it does, it's just that it causes stress where the snaps are and feels wierd after a couple hours. Mandalorean Posted February 22, 2017 Share Posted February 22, 2017 As Stasz suggests, I would be tempred to have another go. I'm on my 4th self made bund and planning a 5th to get detials right. But to answer your question, and reiterate Stasz answer, putting in a zip would be fine as long as it was hidden and the outward appearance was that of a 2" velcro fixture. From your description it sounds like you have taken a different measurement for your chest and of your waist and then used that for the top and bottom lengths of your 'bund. I find just using the chest measurement for both top and bottom lengths works best as having differetn lengths means its tricky to get the back to look square when closed. To be honest once I figured out that the cod doesn't go even halfway under your legs my bund length turned out to be perfect. Every time I suited up I looked at my bund and thought "what would Mickey think"😀! I love the zipper idea because I can say that it can be a real bear to get your bund Velcro line perfectly straight dressing yourself.
