Don Post Helmet

Recommended Posts

Decals need to be replaced. Rivets need to be removed from the visor. Visor bolts needs to be changed to 3m bolts or elevator bolts. A repaint is a must. You might wanna change the snout out. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't want to do anything drastic like change the snout or repaint it, so what options are out there? I looked at Altmann's helmet and Chef's Creations.

Two good choices. Chefs helmet is a five piece helmet like the screen used ones. However I think he does sale a complete helmet you'll have to contact him. Altmanns is ready out of the box.

Yeah, I checked with Chef and he does sell a complete helmet for about $420 - $430 USD

As Stroker mentioned there are quite a few mods to do in order to get a decent looking helmet out of an vinyl DP lid. One thing I would add to that list is strenghtening the inside with fibreglass.

If you want something that is ready out of the box Chef's helmets are quite nice and very reasonably priced.

And those are probably the two LEAST drastic things you need to do to a Don Post :)

I have some 3-d printing files but the snout will need to be changed as it is more like the Rebels version of the helmet snout rather than the ROTJ snout.

If you are going to stick with the DP helmet though, you will also have to dremel off the logo on the back of the neck piece. Also, you should do all the mods that were previously listed by Stroker. The snout could at least be touched up with some small files for deeper detail. also, the lense needs to be replaced, and the helmet probably needs to be narrowed down and reshaped with some heat over the course of a few days to a week. Re-modeling a DP helmet is a lot of work, as I have done one before. You have a lot of work ahead of you, but if you do it right, it should turn out great! Looking forward to seeing your progress!!
