Depending which helmet you have its a safe bet that it will be a moulded detail. Some of the first runs of helmets released missed this detail but I believe most have fixed it

What helmet do you have? Many of them it's already molded on. BSP just used foam because they didn't see that detail before they made their mold. So the foam was a cheap fix. I don't know of any template.

Is anyone doing a 3D print of the snout?

I modified Sean Fields Files to fit Jim's bucket:

Done with the nose greeblie!

I started off using the file Sean Fields was super kind to provide. As I said in an earlier post I had to make a few modifications to it for it to 1 be a bit more accurate and 2 fit Jim's bucket perfectly. After fumbling my way through it I've got a pretty good greeblie.

Here's what the file looks like. It's printed in 3 separate pieces, the main body, the mic tip, and then a backing piece for the mic tip.

Here's what you you have when you start working.

Obviously there are a few things that need to be done. First off the holes on the file are too small, I used a 1/16 drill bit to carefully open them all up. You can see the difference it makes.

You can see on the individual fins there is a bit of space between the lines of plastic, this is because it such a small piece and its printing on an angle. I just carefully filled these holes with a bit of CA glue.

I'm not skilled enough at modifying these files so there wasn't much I could do to change the fins digitally so I just modified them a bit manually. All the places marked red I cut the sections out to better match the screen used parts.

I also used the endmill on my dremel to widen the little groove down the center.

After a good sanding I used rustoleum filler primer to prime the piece, then finished off spraying it black. Here's what you're left with.

Here it is compared to the original and to the one that came with my bucket. Obviously the proportions of the original and Jim's bucket are a little different but I'm happy with how close this piece is.

And here it is on the finished helmet:

Again I want to thank Sean as his file really helped me out. If you would like to use my modified version of his file feel free. It is available here:

Backing plate: https://www.dropbox....%20stl.stl?dl=0

Remember though that this version is specifically for Jim's v1 bucket, but if you have the know how it's not super hard to modify.

I've added this quote to my files thread for easy access.
