My SC Helmet

This is my SC helmet as it sat out of the box. I love this thing, but I do want to make it 501st worthy. I know I have to cut out the ear decals and add felt lining inside, but I don't actually see any helmet tutorials on the pathfinder site, only helmet comparisons.

The inside of the helmet should be painted a flat black, and once the ear holes are cut out nothing is used to cover the holes. Between the black interior and the balaclava your head is hidden inside.

 

You can use the stickers as a guide for where to cut. I suggest painting the inside before cutting out the ear holes. Less places to worry about masking.

If you have a steady hand, carefully use an exact-o knife to score around the sticker, making multiple passes. Don't try to jam the blade through and cut it out in one shot. Or you could use a small drill bit, make holes all around the border of the sticker, and then "connect the dots" with the exact-o. This method would require more cleanup around the edge of the ear hole though.

I know of a guy in my garrison who glued a black felt lining instead of using paint, what do I do about the circular washers on either side of the visor? Do I paint them grey?

Are they raw metal bolts? You could probably scuff sand them with a high grit and then spray paint primer grey. The color should match the grey on the snout.

That's a good idea, they're steel washers, unpainted and unscuffed, what about grey decals?

also I put some adhesive hook velcro on my chin strap, and sewed a strip of loop velcro to the chin of my Balaclava, hated the chin strap slipping and hitting my nose lol.

What those are is actually called an elevator bolt. It's a flat headed bolt with a square top to the shank to keep them from spinning:

 

 

Very similar to the Original 3M speedglas bolts, but metal, obviously, and the shank is longer.

also are ICOMM boxes approved for all types of troopers, or just TK's? I got one for my scout, and I've had fun using it.

I had no idea those were called elevator bolts, but yup, that's what they look like. So just scuff it up and paint over it, or get grey scale decals? Sounds like a plan.

Scouts didn't have the static burst that the icomm provides, but it's not disallowed. A lot of us use an Aker amp and mic. No reason you couldn't use the icomm though as amp systems aren't subject to the approval process.

yup, got myself an Aker 10 watt amplifier and the ICOMM, a hefty buy, but I didn't buy both at the same time.

anyway it doesn't seem like there's too much to do for my helmet, maybe a half hours work on the exterior and maybe an hour or two on the interior if I just decide to glue a bunch of felt to the inside. Spray paint makes me nervous on such expensive stuff. I have a rather 'measure twice, cut once' mentality

Yo dudes! Don't forget you can use gaffer's tape inside the helmet too. Ya know, like they did in the movie

 

That's what I did with my RS Props bucket, because I did not want to paint the inside of it black.

My friend just lined the inside with black felt, and used a glue gun, I don't like the idea of painting either, but getting black duct tape may not be a bad idea

You could even go a touch bigger, keeping in proportion with the "ear" itself. Here's a screen used helmet:

Keeping in mind that this cutout is recessed a bit, you can see that it goes a bit further on the top and bottom.
