I noticed some people just do the same patern all the way around but on the actual sierra sneakers hiking boots it looks like it's a longer cut out in the front, if that makes sense. Keep your cuts a touch shallow as they are not very deep in your reference photos. Watch your fingers! Xactos will go through the boot rubber and your finger with nary a blink. I got 8-10 stitches for that bonehead move. Just a lesson learned I thought I'd share. If you have a dremel you can use a routing bit to get that look too. You can use a piece of duct tape as your depth guide. Just wrap it around the bit. As I mentioned you want to keep the cuts shallow. Anything to save someone a visit to the ER that I had. My cuts are a tad bit too deep on a few of them, I tried to go a little bit more shallow as I got a hang of it.
