cheesewhoopy Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 So for the toe of the boot should I continue the pattern I have? Or is it three longer cut outs? I noticed some people just do the same patern all the way around but on the actual sierra sneakers hiking boots it looks like it's a longer cut out in the front, if that makes sense. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cheesewhoopy Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 I was also using these pics as reference Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Retrofire Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 That's a good reference right there! Yeah keep it to the SS IV pattern as that's the movie look you want. Keep your cuts a touch shallow as they are not very deep in your reference photos. Watch your fingers! Xactos will go through the boot rubber and your finger with nary a blink. I got 8-10 stitches for that bonehead move. Just a lesson learned I thought I'd share. If you have a dremel you can use a routing bit to get that look too.

I didn't even think to use my Dremel, maybe I'll give that a try, thanks for the advice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You can use a piece of duct tape as your depth guide. Just wrap it around the bit. As I mentioned you want to keep the cuts shallow. Anything to save someone a visit to the ER that I had. Doc: "so what were you doing again?" me: "uh cutting my boot soles for my Biker Scout" Doc: "riggghhhhttt"

Doc: "so what were you doing again?" me: "uh cutting my boot soles for my Biker Scout" Doc: "riggghhhhttt" Haha yeah I'd like to avoid any ER visits. My cuts are a tad bit too deep on a few of them, I tried to go a little bit more shallow as I got a hang of it. I've never cut chunks of boot sole out before lol so it's been a unique experience Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BikerScout007 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Don't overthink it bud, it looks beautiful. When we evaluate for Lancer we don't measure the cuts hahaha. We just look to see they are there

TK3100 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I used my old dissection kit. Worked so smooth and very quick.
