Bugz
Greetings all! Bugz from Canada, ready to get my scout on! Been in love with the scouts since I first saw them on the big screen as a child, and had one of the original speeder bike toys, with the "explosion" button behind the seat (you older guys must remember how amazing that toy was) I have been lucky enough to have a wife and mother, who have seen fit to bless me with the gift of a helmet for X-mas! TK or TB... I think the choice is clear, but I'm having issues.... i'm hoping I can get some help, or some directions from you vet's. I have a larger sized head 7 3/4 so I'm assuming the SC bucket is out as I have heard they run small (but their armour is amazing)... so next I e-mailed Krop..... 330$USD for a completed helmet... blows my mind, is that too much? (seems like it) and I would much rather have a kit helmet that I could work on and put together myself, but they didn't seem to have that option? I have heard Altmans, but haven't found any info, prices, contact, (maybe I haven't looked in the right place, or hard enough?) What are some of my options here? I'm not planning on getting this AT Christmas obviously due to how long it takes), but the women in my life would at least like to present me with a RECEIPT or invoice for XMas....... Help me out here brothers and sisters, I'm eager to get this new project underway as my Mandolorian is currently sitting on a shelf waiting for some softs to get finished, and the cold weather up here means I have plenty of time to work on stuff. Look forward to your responses Cheers! ~Bugz
BikerScout007
Welcome! And yes, that Scout toy was amazing! $330 for an assembled helmet is very reasonable. My first Scout helmet was the assembled KS. My second one cost almost twice that. Altmann is our very own Spike! Look him up on this site and shoot him a PM.
Bugz
Thanks Mr. Bond..... 007.... nvrmind. I shall look him up on here... may I also ask, what is the "Average" price of helmet kits? I understand there will be differences depending on maker, quality, accuracy, but can you gimme a ballpark-ish idea of what helmet kits generally run at?
Retrofire
The XO was pretty much on in his post. If you want an assembled lid ready out of the box your looking at between $300 up to scary$$$ for a movie repro. You can save a bit by building it yourself and those start around $200 or so. There is a great helmet comparison thread in the armory. Head on over and take a look and that will help you get an idea of the lids available to you.
Bugz
lol, I'v been saying that I'd like a Kit and to do the work myself, not a pre finished helmet. I'll head on over to the armory section and poke around see what I can see.... but i'm pretty sure I know I want a kit helmet, just not sure who's got the best cost for said item, especially with the Us/CDN exchange and shipping. Still waiting to hear back from Krop if they have a KIT available for their helmet, and not just the finished one.

Bugz
and Who/what is MC? MonCal ? Far Away Creations? I get lost on the abbreviations sometimes, I think I'v checked it out, but now I'm not sure.... And anyone with an SC Helmet and a 23inch head? I hear they are tight, and I looked at the measurements, but not sure how it ACTUALLY fits, so just looking for peoples personal "fit"

I will put it on & take a pic for you to see.

I've never worn an SC so I can't answer the second question. Maybe someone else can chime in on that!
Bugz
Thank you all! Every little bit helps
Retrofire
I had a KS helmet and it was tight and I have a 23" melon like Chunk so I went with a Spike lid which has plenty of room but as the XO said it's not a kit. SC is a popular "you build it" lid and you can always try MC but not sure on the lead time there you'll have to reach out to them and check. Bugz
From the looks of it, (the situation, not your helmet chunk, looks great) I'll probably be going with the KS helmet due to price, sizing should be fine from what I've seen. Thanks all for the feedback, I look forward to bugging you with more questions later!
Chunk
This is my wife's bucket. I myself wear a KS. There is a comparison thread here. I have pics of 3 of my helmets. DP, KS & CB. I did not have the SC at the time of the comparrison.
Bugz
I'm going with the KS, but I'm curious if there are any trimming guidelines or tutorial anyone has for a KS, I'm trying to poke around on my phone, but it seems to have issues with the site sometimes
Retrofire
There are several over in the Armory but some also end up in build threads. You just have to leaf through them. There's just so much information on the helmet it can be overwhelming but keep at it. Another thought would be to search You Tube for KS build maybe someone posted a video there? Just a thought. Bugz
Tried YouTube with no luck yet, and I'll have the do some digging, as my phone isn't letting you use the search option on the forums for some reason, but thanks!
