Work Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Figured I'd post my process over here. Most of this is pulled from my build thread. So here's what I started with. All the base painting done. I used a black undercoat, the base coat is rustoleum ivory silk. First off, I used my airbrush to paint along all the edges/ areas that would be under shadow/ etc. Painted a few random splotches as well. I used a Vallejo game air paint color called Dark Fleshtone. Most of this will be sanded away but it's a nice base to work with for griming things up. The next step is using tamiya weathering powders to add some more grime and dirt. Now for my favorite part of the build. Using a combination of a sharp exacto knife, a file, and some sandpaper I worked my way around the helmet taking off bits of paint here and there, revealing the black paint below. I just went back and forth between a few different reference photos and trying to weather the helmet in similar places. Then after a bit more sanding I wiped the entire helmet down with Strong Ink by The Army Painter. I Just put a little bit down on a paper towel and went over the entire surface. I'm pretty happy with the resulting color. 4
Chiro Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 How did you get the nice rough edges on the scratches on the chest plate?
Work Posted November 20, 2016 Author Posted November 20, 2016 How did you get the nice rough edges on the scratches on the chest plate? I used sand paper. Personally used 400 grit so I could control how much I was weathering pretty easy but you could use a lower grit. Also used latex masking in a few places.
Work Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Thanks. I'll probably change it up a bit whenever I upgrade my kit now that we have the real paint colors. 1
thesmartaleck Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Man, I really love the weathering on your chestplate. Looks great! 1
