Bobik96
Does anyone else, who has a fiberglass helmet, feel that the white just doesn't match the ABS plastic white of their armor? Mine has always been off a little but not really noticeable in person, especially out in the sun. in some low light photos it looks terrible. It doesn't contrast as much in person as it does in these pics but I still want pics to reflect well. I am not sure if re painting would help. Does anyone have any tricks to brighten? Would weathering blend it more? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Torm
I paint cars for Boyd autobody and glass in Canada. I would think the only thing you can do is paint the helm
Stroker
Wet sand and polish it! I had the same issue with my CB and SC not matching. Once that's done it'll be so damn close you won't be able to tell.

Stroker
Thanks Tim. Did you remove the decals for that process? Yes I did. Make sure you use atleast 3000 grit and go up from there. After you have it sanded nice and smooth buff it out with some good car polish. Turtle wax buffing compound is the best I've used. Just check your self and watch real close to make sure you don't sand through the paint. Anything else just shoot me a pm or post it here. Strider
For me weathering always does the trick. IMO all scouts should have weathering anyway, lol.
Chef
It all depends on what gel coat was used as the base. If it's brilliant white, it should match the armour quite well. If not, then it won't. It's just a question of paint codes, exactly the same as if it was paint. If you can't buff/polish/weather it to blend in then you're going to need to paint it. Appliance white (a fairly standard colour around the globe) is a good match for most plastic sheets.
Stroker
There's a problem with CB's helmets. Now I really have no real clue as to what it is. I've used every high end to low end paint their is along with and without a sealer and still ended up with yellow. So my solution was wet sanding. Also I moved away from SC and CB to another helmet vendor and armour vendor. Yes after weathering my scout it's the only way to go.

At least not when you apply a plastic adhesive and a primer first. The color code we use in Europe is RAL 9016, not sure though how that translates into US or other color standards. Stroker
Well there is. Fiberglass acts different than abs when it comes to paint and no matter what you do or what paint you use its going yellow. All material reacts differently to paint. Painting fiberglass white is a pain in the ass no matter how you look at it. I've seen corvettes with 6 month paint jobs start turning yellow. Bobik96
This is an interesting conversation. Here is a little more background and a pic of the primer and paint that I used. CB recommended a polyurethane paint. From day one it never really matched. I don't feel that the yellow has increased however I cannot say for sure. It really looks different depending on the lighting. A quick internet search this morning told me that spray polyurethane over white usually yellows. So maybe a polyurethane paint was a bad idea. Painting may be inevitable.
Stroker
If you have to paint it stick with matching paint and primer. I just saw a trooper destroy a Fett paint job by mixing paint brands.
Bobik96
Well it looks like I'll be re painting. I found the old paint can. The paint drippings on The can have also yellowed. It does that without any contact with fiberglass. I can't say that I recommend this type of paint. Thanks all for the previous feedback. I think I'll go with good ol rattlecan white. I see that others have had good results that way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Stroker
I would also follow up with a wet sand. You'll thank me when your done . It make that whit pop and shine just like your SC armor.
