Attaching the tank

Recommended Posts

Some troopers glue it and use a cut off, "cosmetic" rivet head, as that has to be there.

A tried and true method can be found in PandaTroopers build thread where you make a plastic L bracket that rivets to the inside of the back armor and extends through a slot you cut so it sticks out of the back and the tank can sort of sit on - and be riveted to - that bracket.

I apologize if the description is clunky. It's very well detailed in Panda's thread which is pinned at the top of this Armor forum. Depending on the thickness of the material you use for the bracket, you may need a longer rivet than is used elsewhere.

I was able to rivet the top and bottom of my SC just fine, but I also used E6000 just in case

I made the rivet purely cosmetic and followed Mustangman's approach to velcroing the tank to the back piece. This worked incredibly well, as it was less effort than building a shelf, holds tight, is easily removable when needed, and looks pretty good (with some minor "screen-accurate" gaps).

(green tape is my attempt at lining up the stripes).

I came up with a slightly different solution. I wanted mine to be removable but still screen accurate.

So an elastic strip (slightly too thick atm) is riveted to the rank topper just like the originals, but rather than it crossing all the way to the bottom and being riveted there and making the connection permanent, I added velcro on the inside. I riveted the bottom elastic strap to the tank only and cut a slot to pass it through to the inside of the back.

This makes the tank easily removable but still screen accurate with the visible elastic at the top of the tank.

I can remove mine for transport - have tested and can squeeze everything into a suitcase if I need to, but I haven't had to yet. I suppose you could store things but find the pouches give me enough storage already
