Don Post Transfermation wip...

Recommended Posts

So almost 20 years ago in 1997 my dad purchased a helmet from Don Post collectors. Here it is:

Let's be honest here.... Its pretty awful and needs a ton of work. So here I begin my work on this horrid helmet and am ready to attempt to turn it over to 501st standards...

First I countersunk 2 holes among the lower section of the visor into the hidden inner lip to the "cheek" (?) of the faceplate. And put a rivet through the countersunk hole and will bondo that later.

Next I removed the ugly visor to be replaced later.

Then I later cut off the airator and cut holes in the ear pieces and taped and glues black mesh materiel into the ear holes/vents...

This was all done in less than an hour and I will do my best to do more tonight.

Thanks,

Alex

Nice project, let's see what you can do with it. Not sure though if riveting the sides to the facemask was a good idea ;-) You might also want to think about exchanging the snout greeblie against something more accurate.

Cheers

Sadly every time I tried to epoxy the sides together on the inside they never held and always broke apart:(..

I can deal with any small imperfections though. The one I want to use for troops would be the Altmann Helmet though so I'm not worried too much:)

Here's is today's progress:

As I said before it needs a ton of work still but I'm not too worried about imperfections because I won't be using this for troops ( because I'm under age) and when I turn 18 and apply, I want to, by then, mod a better Altmann's Helmet.

Today will be the last day for 2wks I will be able to work on this helmet due to a vacation i am taking (first one in 10yrs), so don't expect updates for at least that amount of time:)

Thanks,

Alex

Hey guys,

Sorry about the Not posting for a couple weeks, as I was on vacation. All I did this morning was replace the airator, repaint the snout greeblie, and do a little reshaping.

As for the reshaping, I JUST reshaped it. The tape is actually still on the helmet while it turns rigid again and regains a better shape.

I have also gotten hold of a Don Post helmet, and will watch this thread with great interest. Taking from the top down, so to speak...

I will need to do all the same work or maybe less . Mine does not look as warped on the visor....take pics. let us keep up with your project.

Hey guys, it has been FOREVER since I updated this thread but here I go... So I dremeled the tops of the rivets off flush with the visor, and filled in the divets with epoxy putty. Ordering a DVH snout greeblie later to replace this ugly mcgugglie one that comes with the helmet:).

P.S. sorry for the broken photo links but with the recent horrifying Photobuckets bs, my pics have been lost due to me not wanting to spend $400 a year to host photos. Hello imgur!
