Looking for belt buckle info.

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have a question about the plastic buckles on the drop boxes. How are they attached? I've seen builds where the strap is passed through one end, over the quick connect and though the other end - one continuous strap. And of course I've seen other builds where the strap end is looped through the buckle slot and sewed over. So if the buckle is undone the strap would fall away. Also, which way does the male end of the buckle go - up towards the belt or pointing downwards toward the drop box? Thanks.

That's a great question Randy. In the front they point upwards towards the belt and they are reversed on the back i.e. point away from the belt. I did one continuous strap and just looped it through the connectors. You can either loop them or sew them it just depends how you want it to work.

Most folks do one continuous loop. Indeed, this is how it was done in the film.

I did mine with the male end pointing down. This seemed the most logical

Retro what size buckle did you guys use?

I have 1 3/4" wide parachute buckles on my drop boxes that came with the SC armor.

This is probably the one SC uses: http://www.joann.com...BBuckle&start=1 I'm using a 1.5" strap and it fits just about right on. They run about $4 or so at Jo-Anne's.

You're welcome my friend. I'm one of many around here. Troopers helping troopers brother. This is why this is the best Det and forum in the good ole 501st!

I'm getting ready to start on my belt and had the exact questions. I just want to verify that by doing the "continuous loop" method it basically makes the parachute clips functional in decoration only, i.e. unclipping them does not separate the boxes from the belt.

Yes - they're decorative. While you could make them functional, there's no real reason to remove them while trooping - it would just be another two parts to keep track of.
